If it's a villa off one of our sites, email me at john@orlandovillas.com with the villa ref number or owner's name and I'll be happy to try and put your mind at rest.
Hi John sorry for late reply its a villa from owners direct!
I stopped advertising on Owners Direct some years ago as the posted rates for villas in my area were so ridiculously low there was little point in continuing.
Jmass, if you are already feeling uncomfortable about this villa, then you obviously realise that to maintain a villa to a high standard needs a substantial and very regular investment, and if it seems too good to be true it might well be.
Now if a home is being offered at what you realise is a low rate then it might ring warning bells. Now of course, it could be that these people have a lot of money and are happy to pour money in to their home to keep it in tip top condition, whilst subsidising other people's holidays, but why would they want to do that? You could strike lucky and book a home which is pristine AND cheap. However, it could be that it is cheap and well used and not regularly updated or poorly maintained.
I cannot give you a definitive answer, I am afraid, about this particular home. But you can do some research yourself. Ask your villa owner how up to date the photos are. I am afraid that on some villa rental sites homes (not OV, I hasten to add!)will allow villa owners to display the same photos for years and years, and this will not accurately display the condition of the home. Bedding and furniture that looked pristine when the photos were taken may well look worn out and tatty today.
Ask your villa owner how often they visit their home and when they last stayed in it. To maintain a home to a high level you really must visit it regularly as nobody (no matter how good your Management Company is) will notice all the little things that take a home from bog standard to excellent.
Check the pool photos - are they taken low down over the pool, showing just the water and no views of what surrounds the pool deck? This could indicate that the home is very overlooked which some guests don't want.
Ask how often they replace towels and linens. From experience, these need regularly replacing if they are not to appear threadbare and worn out.
I hope that you find something suitable very soon, but do your research first. The accommodation you book can make or break your holiday. An uncomfortable flight only lasts a few hours. A miserable home can spoil 2 weeks precious holiday.
Why don't you take a look at some of the villas on here? Click the links above and then you can make a comparison.
Sound advice from Ellie. Follow all the suggestions above and you will not go too far wrong.
Hi John sorry for late reply its a villa from owners direct!
Why not consider booking a villa via this site instead then? (You can find them via the sites linked at the top of this page).
Every villa listed has to be verified with the sites every six months, so you have the safety of that system behind you. Plus you have direct access to John and Roger who own and run the sites, via these forums. In fact, John was the first person to post a reply on this thread.
John and Roger's whole business is built around providing a quality product so they would be quick to take action if any villa was found to be seriously wanting, or misrepresented.
On top of that you have a group of villa owners here who really do believe that going the extra mile to give people fantastic accomodation that forms the basis of brilliant holidays is worth the extra effort involved.
There are heaps of places online that you can find a villa, but very few of them seem to have this support and safety system sitting behind them; at least I haven't found any yet that rival this one. You could risk your holiday on trying to get a bargain elsewhere ... but ultimately, is it really worth it?
