View Full Version : Fuel Costs - Alamo at Tampa
I am sure that in the past the fuel charge was not taken from our credit card until after we returned the car. We collected our car on 16th January for return today (boo hoo) the estimated fuel charge was $46.03. However on 16th Feb. $58.94 was taken from our credit card. Is this normal at Tampa?
I had a similar problem with Alamo in the summer of 2011 and discovered that the car I had chosen was bigger than the normal for the size booked (although in the same category) and had a larger fuel tank. I felt cheated (female on my own) but there was nothing to be done.
If you send in your rental agreement from Alamo showing the lower estimated fuel charge then we can see if they have added anything else on. At the time you are given the paperwork with the estimated fuel charge, they don't know which car you will actually drive off in from the parking lot (since you chose the car yourself) so when they make the charge it's based on the actual fuel tank size of the car you took. Also you need to add a few percent on to the estimated fuel charge for taxes.
Thanks for the replies. I do know that the fuel charge depends on the car size, however the car we got is the car size we ordered and my main concern was that they have already take the money well before I returned the car, is this normal.
Sometimes payment is taken before you return the car, so I wouldn't be concerned. Even within the same car category some cars can have a varying tank sizes so even though you chose a car within your booked category it could still have a larger tank than their average tank size in that category.
