Hi eveybody
We're going to be in Florida for Halloween this year - any tips of where to go to be scared witless! would be much appreciated (especially by my kids!)

It was several years ago now, but we went to Medieval Times. Boy they were even terrifying the adults!! It was a walk-through with coffins and dark 'corners'. They knew how to dress- up there!

Couple of years ago we did Halloween at Disney. It was wonderful, we even visited the local Wal-mart and bought the children a fancy dress outfit each. Everyone was dressed up, and lots of sweets, badges, etc to collect in a bag they were given at the entrance. So depends on how old your children are, and what your 'scare level' is like!

It's my favourite time of year there.

Caroline,if you are going to visit Disney, either the day before, or on the day of, Halloween, get you and your family to one of the big supermarkets, Walmart, Target, etc., you will find the Halloween goodies reduced (hopefully!). You can get all sorts there, little bits and pieces or full outfits, they go for it in a big, big way! Our kids were transformed into Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, Superman (with genuine padded chest and cloak) and the lion from Wizard of Oz (complete with medal).

Disney would be my choice, they do it so well, and everyone is in such good spirits. We went first thing in the morning, came back to the villa for an afternoon rest (put the kids to bed for 2 hours sleep), then returned at 7.30pm. It cost a bit extra but it really was worth it, especially considering all the treats the children collected throughout the park. My daughter was 14 years old at the time, and one little kiddie believed she was the real Dorothy (we had bought a pair of red spangly shoes in the sale at Target), and this kiddie was fascinated, made the holiday!!!

Wish it was me going at Halloween, I'm envious!!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Sorry Caroline, forgot to mention in all my excitement - it was Magic Kingdom we went to for Halloween. :)

It's Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom and it's great fun. Everyone goes dressed up and you get free family photos, trick or treating etc.

However, if your children want to be scared (!) I would suggest you think about Universal which I understand does a seriously scary night! My teenagers would probably want to do that now - but the loved MNSSHP when we went a couple of years ago.

Universal's Scary Halloween Nights have got a good report from my sister-in -law. Amongst other things, they have a haunted house and a parade of ghosts, ghouls and other monsters ( a special one off parade like they do for Mardi Gras) We will be there also at that time and reckon that is the one we will go for.

According to our US next door neighbour, our front door got egged last Halloween. I guess the local kids knocked but did not get anything from the guests so they took their vengeance out with the trick bit.

The time we were out we put some halloween stuff out and bought a load of trick or treat stuff for the kids.

My daughters were so disappointed that no-one came round - still all the more for them!![u]</u>

This year Universal Halloween Horror Nights are being held at Islands of Adventure for the first time ever and we are promised new shows and new haunted houses on all five islands. "Childhood nightmares come to life in Toon Lagoon, lost souls and demons stalk the Lost Continent whilst mutant half dinosaur half humans lurk in Jurassic Park". It is rated PG13 so is supposed to be pretty scary. The tickets just for the Horror Night bought on line are $49. Starts 4th October through to 2nd Nov on most nights ( not all) Weekends are supposed to be busy. I have a thread going on t-f asking whether it is possible to upgrade an existing day pass so that you can stay on for the horror night as we have left over days on a Universal Escape. Dont really want to use that and then pay another $49 on top in the evening. Anyone on here know??'

Universal Studios emailed me back ( very impressed) on my question of whether you can upgrade an existing pass to include the Horror Nights. You can but it costs $39 so is only $10 less than buying a separate pass and it can only be done in the park so you cannot pre-book. Frankly it doesn't seem worth upgrading given the size of the saving. I will be saving my day passes for another time when they don't boot you out of the park early to set up for the evening show and will buy a separate ticket for the Horror Nights.

I have found both universal and disney are extremely helpful and come back to you really quickly.

I had to e-mail the hard rock people when I was trying to find out about oasis being there in August, and they kindly sent me all the details so I could book, and came back to me really quickly.

They are also both extremely good if you phone up over there.

(just got back so still jet lagged in spite of melatonin......, but at least my computer here doesn't put words into my copy - I write enough rubbish without it adding to it)<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Doing some research on Halloween as we are out there then ( sorry to rub it in, folks!!) and came across the new event at Busch Gardens called Howl O Scream!! Very much along the lines of the Universal Horror nights but cheaper. I have posted on it under Busch Gardens including dates and prices, Got to be done, I think.

The Universal one is VERY scarey so worth it if that's what you want but I spent the whole evening very jumpy. Everything is very dark and spooky with lots of mist and fog - and things that bump in the night (literally!!).
The mazes are quite incredible apparently although I never plucked up enough courage to go in one.
We stocked up with treats for the trick or treaters but they never came to us at all so my kids had to eat them all! Guess all the neighbours know we're a STR.

That one sounds good as well, Angela. Guess I am going to have to go to both!!! Will report back on the Busch Gardens one. Think it is new so guess no one has any experience of it?? They give a discount for Florida residents ( homeowners) as well which I am not sure Universal do. Anyone know???

I understand that the Universal fright nights have a PG13 rating - does anybody know if this means NO under 13's or just that they have to have an adult with them <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

I would guess it is OK to take an 11 year old in as long as you think it is OK. They let us take our then 16 year old into an R movie. Said that they would not have allowed him to go in alone until he was 18 but if his parents said it was suitable, who were they to argue. If you are really worried that he will get turned away at the gate, why not email customer services through their website and ask the question.I emailed them asking if I could upgrade my pass to include the Horror Nights and they replied within 24 hours.

What about an extremely nervous 50 year old mum of three-whose 'kids' will play on that and terrify her even more.

I was told that if you stayed on the pavement-the ghoulies don't spook you? Will my kids let me stay on the pavement-I may as well ask £1000 a week for my villa!

They'll probably put a sign on my back saying-'Just scare this woman senseless-she mght scream a lot-but she loves it really!'

I wonder if I can arrange to be ill that day?

A 90 minute ghost tour of Downtown Orlando would be another good idea for Halloween. See www.orlandohauntings.com

Also featuring show Bill and Teds Halloween Adventure.

Guess who'll be there crawling through the room with the snakes, spiders and rats. ME!!!! Help!!!!!!!

By the way, Florida and Georgia Residents can get $20 off the non peak horror nights with the UPS code from a 2 liter Coca Cola bottle or a voucher from Taco Bell. Unfortunately this has to be booked on line and the tickets posted out to you so only Martin will benefit!!

Forgot to mention, you get free admission to all the City Walk nightclubs with either your ticket stub or your map from the Halloween Horror Nights.

Just booked my Busch Gardens Howl O'Scream tickets on line. It is just $19.95 on Thursdays and $29.95 on weekends for Florida residents. You can print your tickets out using E ticket which solves the problem of getting them mailed to a Florida address and you just have to prove your Florida residence at the turnstile ( by utility bill or whatever). Looking at the website, I think this one will be even better than the Universal Halloween Horror Nights ( which I am going to as well!!)

You can add Fright Feast to your ticket for $16.95. This is a pre Howl O'Scream dinner show that gives the advantage of entrance to the Haunted Houses 30 minutes before general admission.
