I had the same query as you as I shall be using Alamo for the first time next month.

Their reply to my query was that as an 'International Passenger under US Security Regulations' we all have to go to the Alamo location desk and join the queue.

To say I am doubtful about this explanation is an understatement !!

I have a guest who has booked Alamo through this site and asked if he would try the Alamo site. His reply was:-

"I't sounds great....BUT.....it doesn't work if you've made a reservation through a third party.
I entered the required information and it came back with "This confirmation number is referenced to a Tour Operator, please check with your Tour Operator". Apparently you cant use that system if you are using a Car Hire Voucher."

Bookings through us can use the Alamo Save Time feature which will make collecting your car much faster.

I wrote to Alamo and their reply to was:-

All International renters must check in at their pickup locations counter. No matter how you booked your rental, it's policy.

That's not quite right as bookings through us can use it as Roger has mentioned above. They have just given you the generic reply which was true until recently.

Roger knows the precise details so I'll let him answer properly here but just thought I'd mention it as he's away for a few days and not monitoring the forums as often as he usually does.

I've posted on this thread about the Alamo "Save Time" see ...
http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/topic_53000.asp

You fill in your details ahead of time but you still have to go the the rental desk but all your forms are pre printed and all you need to do is sign and go. I also found that the rental agent doesn't try push extras as the forms are completed already.

I agree with David. We have used the "Save time" feature twice now, you still have to queue up but once you are at the desk there is no hard sell for you to have an upgrade and your information is already registered so things are much quicker.

What is particularly good about this is that when you fill in the forms online before you go, you select whether you want any of the options like unnecessary insurance, enhanced break down cover or pre-paid fuel. This means that you are not subject to any pressure from sales staff to take unwanted extras.

As part of this thread Roger has written that under the Save Time registration you can choose whether to collect full/return empty but when I completed the details it said it would charge for fuel making me think that this option is not available. I prefer to collect full/return full.

Anyone any experience of this system at Tampa?

The collect full / return full is no longer an option with Alamo, although Alamo do charge only around the pump price rather than a heavily inflated price for the tank of fuel.

Thanks for that Roger; I shall go back onto Alamo's site and complete the Save Time registration.
