The Apple Store is the obvious choice but the price difference is decent but not great and of course the power lead has a US plug on it so you'll probably have to fork out on extras. I think the keyboard is a little different as well.
I considered it but felt it really wasn't worth the trouble for me.
I bought mine in the Apple store at Florida Mall. You only need a plug adapter which costs peanuts. Guaranteed worldwide so no problems. I also bought a Mini Mac which was very easy to transport back to UK.

Are the prices not set as to keep their products the same

No they aren't the same and with the exchange rate fluctuating the difference varies. However, you would have to declare a purchase of an item costing that much to customs and pay the duty because it far exceeds the permitted allowance. When that's factored into the equation, the prices are very similar.
Bottom line for me was that unless I was prepared to act unlawfully and not declare it (and I wasn't), it's really didn't make sense on any level.
