View Full Version : North / South any significant difference
Me again!! Going to be staying in Lindfields just off 192 last two weeks in March, google maps gives me a couple of potential routes, one out the north exit of mco and the other out the south, both routes bring me on to the I4 at some stage and then on to 192. There are previous posts promoting the south exit route as quieter but it is slightly longer. Will be arriving at MCO at 6pm on a thursday, taking all the above into account, North or South Exit? At least I know both exits will get me where I want to go so it will probably be day two before I get lost[msnembarrased]

We always use the south route via the 417 as it's not only quieter, but it's a nicer drive with lots of lovely Florida countryside (it's a big dual carriageway though). The north route via the 528 is ok but it's quite a bit busier and takes you through more urban areas. I don't think there is that much time-wise between the two.

We use the south route as well for much the same reasons as John. Although we have never encountered any problems, the 528 tends to be quite busy.
Thanks guys, will go south then, although I know the satnav will be screaming re-calculating re-calculating, mmm....I'll turn the volume down :)

Not if you specifically ask it to take you there via the 417. No matter what most people think, it's only a machine that does what you ask her to do [msnwink]
Lafifille, how did you know my sat nav was a lady? :) Her name is Majorie by the way
Married 15 years now, two females in the house, 40yrs & 5yrs and can't get either of them to do what I ask[msnwink]
Oh dear, going off track must be getting excited about hols:D
We always use the south exit, but it does not matter where we are going the sat nav always wants us to go on the I4 unless we tell it otherwise. As already said just tell it to go via 417
A nice time to go on 417 also- all the red and white flowering bushes in bloom along the edges! Make sure you have change for the tolls, or a sunshine pass . Lovely quiet road. a couple of exits you could use- come through Celebration onto 192, or through Disney and down Sherberth Road.
Thanks for all the replies, will deffo go south, a couple of workmates are in the U.S. before we travel, they are under strict instructions to bring back whatever loose change they have so should be sorted for the tolls, thanks again.

I got distracted, in French objects have a gender, a machine is a she. I was very careful not calling the sat nav a "she", because I just knew what was coming, and then got caught in the next sentence:D. Oh well... I own a B&B, and now that everybody has a satnav, a lot more guests are getting lost than before [msneek]. Actually nobody was getting lost before, they did pay attention to the directions I sent them and did have maps in their cars [msnwink]. I'm thinking of writing a book with all the incredible stories I'm dealing with, it's really extremely funny sometimes.
Little chance you'll get lost in Florida though, it's so easy to drive around in the US. And what's the point of being on a vacation if you don't get lost once in a while :D. Enjoy your holidays!!!!
We too like the south exit and the route along the 417. The Sat Nav can be a pest, when we are driving through Disney it keeps trying to send us off to the I-4, even although the quickest route to Lindfields is along past Animal Kingdom and turn left at the traffic light - can we persuade that dreadful woman that we know better than her!!!

Definitely going to use the south exit when we go at the end of the month.
Q: We have to go straight to McDonalds when we get there (not specifically there) but we need to feed the younger kids asap as we had a bit of a nightmare last year!
Does anyone know if there is a Mc Donalds or similar en route to Davenport using the 417? Apart from the one at the bottom of the 27 near the I4 as we would almost be at the villa by then.
As always, thanks in advance
Gary, check out google maps, according to them there is a McDonalds in the Airport and another one not far along the 417 near junction 14.

Not sure where your villa is located but here are a couple of Mc Donalds for you.
If you exit the 417 at Exit 2 and turn right towards the 192, and then turn left going west on the 192 you will find a Mc Donalds on the right hand side, not far along this road. There is another McDonalds on the left hand side (so you would have to do a 'u' turn) just before you get to the junction with the 27. There is also a McDonalds nearly opposite Walmart at Cagans Crossing. To get to this you would need to take the Highway 27 exit going north, signposted Cleermont.
Thanks.
We are on highlands Reserve so didn't really want to tackle the 192 so all those Macs are out. There is one at the I4-Hwy27 junction but that's too far.
Lyn suggested one which looks perfect, about 10 minutes along the 417.
I won't be dining, i will wait for my Publix hot chicken and deli salad but the younger kids will want something (or at leaste they did last year!)
It doesn't make much difference in time but we usually take the South route.
Depending on where you're staying, it can be a little confusing getting from the Celebration exit to the 192 West. Wouldn't be the first time I have been driving around Celebration pretending that I'm checking it out and not, in fact, lost.

You would be better to come off the I4 at the 429 and then join the 192 at Orange Lake. You could then go to MD's at Cagan Crossings.

At the 429? Surely that's a mile out of my way? If i was to do that i might aswell come off the I4 at the 27 and go to MD's there and that way i wouldn't be going out of my way at all.
Unless i've got my geography wrong on where Orange Lake, Cagan's Crossing and the 429 are??
Just put it into Google Maps and i am amazed that coming off the I4 onto the 429 to join the 192 is only 1.3 miles and 2 minutes longer than going straight down the I4 and up the 27.
Amazed!!!
