Hi, we are flying on Sunday to Orlando via New York, is there a phone number that I can take with me just in case we are delayed?
Margaret it won't matter if you are delayed, car will still be waiting

I don't believe this is actually true once you go past midnight; others may have recent tales to tell.
When I had a 22 hour delay leaving UK I contacted USCarHire and also found a telephone number for Budget at Orlando.

Sorry that was my point, is there a telephone number for US Carhire that I can take with me?
Margaret - your voucher from USCarHire will have come with a lot of information. One item is a '24 hr UK Assistance for Collection Issues Only' telephone number - it is a UK mobile number. The instructions carry on to tell you to leave your details and someone will get back to you.
Don't worry unduly, USCarHire will do all that they can as long as you keep them informed as long as you have all your paperwork and booking numbers to hand.

Also, your flight number is usually on the voucher. If you don't show up ontime or whatever they (car hire) can check and if you are delayed...that will surely show on the flight status.
Keep in mind that whoever your rental company is..Dollar etc. You can always call THEM..after all it's the carhire company you will be pickin the car up from.
We have never been delayed in all the times we have been back to the US..we have been early so here's to hoping you arrive sooner rather than later ;)
Margaret - don't do what I did with regard to the flight number and put the UK to New York flight number !! It is the New York to Orlando one that is important.
we had a long delay 2 years ago and our car was ready and waiting, car hire company knew the flight and were expecting everyone, cars all ready and waiting even at 2 in the morning
We were delayed a couple of weeks ago in Miami. We couldn't get the car type we had ordered but got a free upgrade - result!! Had no problems at all

Margaret,
I understand your concern and I to asked about a contact number.
Roulla from US Car Hire responded to my email ...
"In the event of any problems, please email us and we can assist you. I hope you have a great trip."
I replied ...
"Roulla,I know nothing is likely to go wrong, but "sending an email" is not the best way to get in touch when you are standing at the Alamo desk with a problem. I won't be taking my laptop with me on vacation. Do you not have a help line number for such occasions?"
Roulla .. "Our bookings and our customer support is done via email. We do not make or receive calls. Our support staff are on hand to help you with any questions you may have."
I an happy to say that everything went smoothly as it has done before, however it is always comforting to know you had a number to call for help if it was needed.
All in all I have been more than happy with the service from US Car Hire and by way of customer feed back I believe that this is the only thing missing which would improve their customer service.
It is the case that if you have any problems at at the last minute before collection then you should call the rental company directly. On your voucher is an emergency UK number (for Budget) and the depot phone number for Dollar and Alamo. Even if we were to take your call (day time or out of hours) then all we could tell you to do is call the emergency number on your voucher.

Hi everyone, as it turned out we did have problems with late pick up due to flights being cancalled. Car hire was was not a problem thankfully. Am planning on posting a trip report telling the whole story [msnwink]

Glad to hear it all went well with the car hire portion - so often the original poster to a thread never relates back with what happens to the end of their tale.
An update on this. We are about to get an emergency UK number to use for Alamo and Dollar bookings. This will be for genuine emergencies only and will be staffed up to 10:00pm UK time. After that you can leave a message with contact and order details and someone will get back to you the following morning.
The number is not for placing last minute orders, but to notify us of last minute problems such as delays or other issues with a booking already placed.
Roger,
Does this number replace the current one as this was always manned as far as i know?
Speaking for the Manchester Virgin flight, quite often it can be around 5pm US time that you are at the desk/kiosk which would be around 10pm UK time hence the phone number would be unmanned?
The current one is for Budget and is not manned evenings or over night, but both are monitored for messages. The idea of the numbers is really for delays or known issues before you fly. Once you are at the desk, in the unlikely event of an issue then you can log the issue on the answer phone, but problems at that point would be extremely rare.
That's great news, Roger. How will those of us with existing bookings learn the number? Are you intending on posting it one here, or sending out emails?
We will announce the number on here shortly.

Sorry yes i remember it was Budget where we had the problem in 2008 not Alamo. I did need to call the number whilst actually at the kiosk on a Sunday afternoon in October. I left my message and was contacted back within 20 minutes.
Within another 10 minutes the problem was sorted [msnsmile2]
We were late to pick up our alamo car by 2 days and no questions was ask.
