View Full Version : Chevy HHR
Hi all,
Has anyone on here received a Chevy HHR when booking carhire?
I know that a car cannot be guaranteed, but I would just need to know which catergory to book in(intermediate, full etc especially with Alamo as you can choose). I have seen on another forum a number of people have been able to get them.
I contacted the car hire company at the top of the page on this site and they have said that they do not know any company that supplies them. Seems a bit strange as it's the companies they use. So I just wandered if anyone here as ever had one?
Many thanks
We have had several Chevrolet HHR cars from Budget over the years, I believe they come under the Intermidiate category. We are just two persons and it is a fairly 'boxy' shaped car with sufficient gizmos on the dashboard if you are not too fussy.

Alamo had them..I had my first one after renting a compact and there were no compacts..we had a full size car last time and one was in that line.. I've also seen them in Intermediate..that could be down to engine size and gizmo's..nice car I nearly got one but had a Dodge last time and liked that better..
We picked one up on our last trip (a month ago) and the hhr's were in the compact row at alamo.
Really like the HHR & have managed to get one as an 'mid-sized' (intermediate) with Alamo last 4 visits into MCO.
However, when we flew into SFB, HHR's were in the next grouping up & we 'made do' with a Dodge Caliber (horrible car).
HHR was still 'mid-sized' at MCO in October with about 5 to choose from .....
Guess it depends which Alamo branch you use ????
Mate of ours who drives a Zaphira in UK reckons it's the same car in disguise !!!!
Sorry if we sounded a bit vague when replying to your enquiry, but it's always hard to answer when we are asked about car types.
Alamo and Budget both have them in their fleet, but with both companies they are classed as a speciality vehicle, and not bookable under any of the standard categories. Often clients are allocated one (or one may be sat in the Intermediate of Full Size row with Alamo when you choose your own).
We had one in November for a couple of weeks. Apart from the drivers seat being a challenge to get right, decent enough car. Plenty of room in the boot unless you have golf clubs. Nice to have a rear wash wipe to wipe the dew off in the morning.
Thanks everyone,much appreciated.
I knew that they couldn't be specifically booked, but thought if I could find the catergory I'll just book that and hope for the best. It seems most people were able to get them through Alamo.
We normally have a Tahoe, but in February we are just popping over to our house for a week and don't need such a big one. In August we will go back to the 7 seat SUV.
I asked on another hire site(sorry, as I always book here) and their reply was they stopped making them in (HHR) 2008 and were no longer available. I told them they are about to bring out their latest one for 2011.
:( Doesn't give a lot of confidence when booking.[msnwink]

Just got back from Orlando and one of the cars we had was an HHR and it was in the intermediate class. Have to say it was quite an interesting looking car and the boxy shape made it quite practical too!
Just got back and had two HHR's. Amazing little cars! We booked a Compact and found one in the compact line at MCO, but were told on taking it back that it was an Intermediate (Alamo). Then managed to pick up another one the same night as all the compacts had gone, and the guy said you can take that one - so we did!
We got 4 adults, 4 suitcases (large), one large holdall, 3 wheelies (hand luggage) plus numerous other bags in it for our journey to the airport. We were amazed!
I really wish they would bring them out here, I would have one straight away. Ideal size for the UK. I think I ended up booking with Dollar as John wants to try and get a Charger for February. If it stays as only the two of us again in August then I might try for a HHR instead of the Tahoe.
