Can anyone shed some light on the weather at the moment in Orlando? I am due to fly out from Gatwick on Boxing Day (21days & 16 hrs) :D and having never been this time of year I am wondering what to expect. Being that UK has has some unusual weather, just wondering what to pack to wear[xmas1].

Thanks
JO

It's pretty warm today, then we've got a few cooler days ahead (in the 60's). It's forcast to go hot again by Friday next week. Late evenings and very early morning can get chilly so have something warm for those times and the odd cooler spell that we can sometimes get this time of year. In general once the sun comes up it warms up very quickly.

I usually look up the 10 day or 7 day forecast via Google for Kissimmee before we fly, then pack accordingly. I have experienced really chilly weather (last Thanksgiving) and sat on the beach over Christmas hols (2008) so it can really vary! We always tell guests to pack lightweight fleeces etc as even the aircon in restaurants can be blasting out whatever the outside temp. One advantage of staying in a villa is having a laundry room to wash jeans/sweatshirts worn to travel in and wear again if it turns chilly. Got to be better than here whatever the weather! Have a great trip!

Whatever the weather it has to be better than the snow and -0 temperatures we've had here for the last week or so [msnsmile]

When we were there last January there were several days with frost in the morning but this soon cleared. Although the Floridians were in there jeans and jackets we were in shorts & T shirts for all than about 2 days. At the moment I know were I would rather be.

You would not be in shorts and tee shirts this week.[msnsad] Central heating on, 2 fleeces, fleece leg warmers+++ Sheets covering the plants last night and again tonight..brrrh. [msnoo] Goodness knows what I will do next week when I get back to UK after having wonderful hot sunshine for weeks and weeks. [msncool]Hopefully the cold weather will soon be over and done with and not return in January when we return to Florida again.

Not complaining though, the sky is blue and the sun has been shining even with less heat in it[clap]

"Thank you" all for comments, I agree being in Florida has got to be better than being cold in dreary UK. Cook22uk, I will certainly be googling before we pack![msnwink]

You always feel cooler after a few days in FLORIDA as you do coming back here in the UK you feel colder when been in FLORIDA if you know what I mean we were there Decrember to February last year and we had some changable days we could not go in the pool as the air temp was so cold when you got out of the pool as there was air frost and they sprayed the orange trees so they would not freezeand crack the oranges , The fleese jackets are so cheap in FLORIDA so buy there and not get your case weight high or you will have to pay for extra weight with some airlines.
Enjoy your vacation and the sun.

Over the last couple of days they have had a cold spell. The wind has been chilly as well. My parents were at Busch Gardens one day and they said is was cold. They were also cold when they went to Seaworld one afternoon/evening to watch some of the christmas shows.

The sun does come out, but its not as warm as the week before when it was in the 80's.

Our MC said they had to s[bad language filtered out]e frost off their car a couple of mornings this week. (obviously not as cold as it has been here in the UK).

I think you need to take a couple of trousers and some jumpers especially for the night time.

When we left last Year early in the morning it looked like it had been snowing the frost was so think it was lovely..

If you haven't been before in late Dec and Jan you should not be surprised if it is quite cold.

Early morning frosts are not uncommon so you really need to prepare with warm clothing.

Even on the days when it gets to 70F in the afternoon can be cold evenings and mornings.

Low of -4 today with a high of 7. Seriously cold.

Incredible variation in the weather in Orlando - it was 26 when we were there 4 weeks ago.

Just back in UK,
Weather in Florida ( H27/192) was unusually cold with a couple of frosts. Heating came on for the first time.
However, it usually gets up to the low 70's in the pm, but of course when the sun sets (very quickly BTW) its chilly again.

We always take a warm jumper and or a heavy shirt, just in case; and it came in usefully

BUT there is 99% chance that the sky is Blue!

Fortunately we missed all the snow, although the freezing ice and icicles brought down some guttering on our conservatory!

I think the last time we had such an earlier snow problem was in 1993!

It's not getting into the 70's any day soon - it's really really cold even in the sun. Some of the large stores, Home Depot and Lowes have run out of electric heaters!!!

Going to be below freezing again tonight brrrrr.

We were in Florida 12-27th Feb this year and saw frost on quite a few mornings and it was actually cold some days. We braved it with tshirts and shorts some days but others we were walking round the parks in jeans and fleeces. We were surprised!

Going back 27th March - 13th April and praying for better weather.

It was in the 20's when I got up this morning. There is no way anyone here is in shorts at the moment! It is quite amusing though as in the Mall it looked like UK with everyone in woollie hats, gloves, scarves and coats. Have to admit to going any buying a few more fleeces. $5 in Old Navy. Fantastic!!

From WCTV:

Dozens of helicopters are whirring above Florida's valuable and sensitive veggie crops, an unusual approach by farmers worried an uncommon freeze could wipe out their harvests.

The choppers hover low over green bean and sweet corn fields in
the early morning hours to push warmer air closer to the plants --
and, the farmers hope, save the plants from a deadly frost.

I've never heard of this approach before, hard to imagine it works! We're flying out on Saturday, really hope it warms up.

I must say i had no idea Florida could be so chilly, even in the winter!

My very first visit was in February 2003 and i remember the first few days were nippy (by nippy i mean we wore jeans with t-shirts as opposed to shorts and a cardi on the evenings)! But after a few chilly days we were bathing in our bikinis on cocoa beach watching the shuttle launch - it was glorious for the remainder of the holiday!

-2 sounds strange when applied to the sunshine state, still, i'd rather be -2 in Florida than -2 here! :D

I think the cold weather has broken records. We are travelling back to UK later today so are getting used to it being cold before we go[msnwink]
