There are lots of steak houses in Orlando and some are more reasonble than others. A good choice is Mannys, or Outback, or Charlies Steak house - but what cut and where did you have you best and most memorable steak?

Mine is prime rib, medium rare at Logan Road house - very reasonable, full of flavour. Fantastic... ummmm can taste it now.

We went to Longhorn for the first time in August, and we were very impressed. The steak was really good, as were the ribs. What was especially good was the choice on the menu, and my sister in law loved the chicken in portabello mushroom sauce. It was so good, she had it twice!

Although I have to say that Mannys was better for both steak and ribs. I sometimes have the fillet, but more usually have the top sirloin, or the ribs..... hmmm, too much choice[msnsmile]

Manny's top sirloin of course!!

There are many many steakhouses as you say. I rank them as follows (my opinion only)

1. Manny's Top Sirloin
2. Charleys Centre Cut Fillet
3. Ruth Chris's Fillet
4. Longhorn Flo's Fillet
5. Outback fillet

All very very nice!!

My favourite is Flo's Filet at Longhorn Steakhouse. I have it with baked sweet potato - yum.

Although Mannys do great steaks, I have to go with Longhorn. The new Longhorn on 192 near Target is especially good.

I think the steaks at Longhorns are just as good as Manny's although I prefer the atmosphere at Manny's.

Will have to try both in the interest of fair judgement. It's a hard life but someone has to do it[msntongue]

It has to be Charleys for me. USDA Prime (not Choice) I vote.

Colorado Steak House on 192 is the best steak i've ever had in Florida. The steak was the centre cut sirloin. Although the service wasn't the best the food made up for it.

Hubby would say Kissimmee Steak House then Outback. I vote Outback and Texas De Brazil.

Although I have had some really nice steaks and ribs in most of the Seafood restaurants as well. I think they must pay particular attention to the meat as they they are dab hands at the seafood.

Normally I would answer right away - Manny's - but this time we all felt that it was just 'OK' - can't put my finger on exactly what was missing - but something was. They have now got a new waiting system - with the buzzer thing - which really cut down the waiting time - although we had phoned ahaead - but there was just that something missing. We went to the new Longhorns's on the 192 4 times in 3 weeks and loved it! Jean

Does this mean you don't need to phone ahead now? Their waiting system has always been chaotic to say the least, I've often thought that lady with the lists, shouting out the names and dealing with everyone constantly asking when it's their turn, plus answering the phone had one of the most frustrating jobs in the world.

No Tonish, you still need to phone ahead - it could have been that as it was later in September it was a bit quieter - but as we always go at that time of year - I just didn't think it was so busy as it ussually was! Jennifer is still answering phone calls, sorting out lists, etc., but now hands you a buzzer. I think maybe people were sitting in their cars and that at least made the bar area a bit less hectic.

Best steak... without a doubt, Ruth's Chris. But a couple will get very little change out of $170 after you've left a 15% tip! You must try their cheesecake!

Best budget steak... Probably Longhorn, or try TGIF.

Worst steak... any buffet place. Ponderosa, Buffet King, Ryan's. Denny's steaks are really bad! Thin, fatty, and pan fried!

Most US restaurants will serve you a steak. Depending on how particular you are, you should be satisfied most of the time. If you ask for rare and it's well done, or ask for well done and it's still pink, send it back. The server won't give you a hard time. (doesn't want to jeopardize the tip). And the cook won't spit on it as he re-cooks it!

I found the new system to be much better than before. We always visit in August, so Mannys is always heaving! We phone ahead, and usually were seated within half an hour. Last year we waited for up to two hours!!

MANNY'S MANNY'S MANNY'S Just returned from Florida last week and without a doubt it just has to be Manny's. My husband who eats a "whole cow" on our trips to Florida managed the large Porterhouse in Manny's not sure how big, but it looked big, and said it was the best steak he had ever eaten and boy beleive me he is a big meat eater, personally I think they have the best ribs also. Always use the book ahead service and never wait more than 30 mins.
