Looking at next years holiday we have found a way to hopefully afford to go[msnsmile2] by flying into Miami (looks like could save £1000 on flights!) so can we hire through US Car Hire to pick up/drop off at Miami? Thanks

We picked our car hire up at miami this year,
We always fly into Miami and always use this site for our car hire, so yes no problem at all
It's an easy journey to Orlando from Miami up the Florida Turnpike, so its well worth considering Miami.

As Ellie says, the journey from Miami to Orlando is very easy. We often fly into Miami and drive up the Turnpike. Well worth it if you can save such a lot on the flights!

I was in Miami earlier this week and the new inter-terminal train is now up and running. It will eventually connect to the new shared car rental facility which is a big improvement from what went before.
The only thing I would advise you thinking about is whether you want to do what is a long drive to Orlando after such a long flight, especially if you're travelling at a time of day/year when the traffic will be very busy and it might also be dark. It really isn't as easy as some might suggest.
Personally, I'd pay what is often very little more to fly up to Orlando from Miami.
How long is the drive from Miami to Florida?

Last time i did it, it took about 4 hours. As Katys Grandad says, it isn't straight forward especially if its your first time driving in Miami. Miami is a very busy and at times difficult place to navigate, more so if its dark.

If you are not worried about going at full out speed Highway 27 is a much more relaxing drive and easy to get to form the Airport. Took us just over 3.5 hours with a stop for food.

Thanks guys. Will look into flights up but with 5 of us it would probably be too much. We knew it would be more going in the summer hols just didn't appreciate how much[msncry] We haven't been to Miami before but the driving won't bother DH, he is used to doing silly hours in the car in unfamiliar places for work! Think will look at getting maps for the sat nav though (friend found that was cheaper option than hiring) H27 rings a bell as being near where we are staying. Coming home would be easier as Heathrow is a better airport for us than Gatwick
There are directions in the Florida guide for finding the Florida Turnpike. We usually drive up the I-95 until it meets the Florida Turnpike. If you follow the instructions you shouldn't have a problem. The trickiest bit is getting onto the I-95, after that it is very easy. The road is very good, and once north of Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton the traffic eases significantly.
If you want directions just DM me.
Hope you manage to find flights.[8D]
