Hi

I was just wondering what would happen with the car hire if you had an accident part way through the rental i.e. would you be given another car or would you be left stranded?

I would presume because you have paid for all the extra insurances you should be covered for accidents and be given another car regardless of fault, but I have not see this point discussed anywhere.

Thanks

We had an accident at Christmas when a truck towing a trailer ran in the back of us. After sorting it out we went to the airport as it was Sunday evening and the 192 office was closed they exchanged it straight away for another car and were really helpful and concerned that we were ok.. I dont know if it made a difference because the truck that hit us was given three citations, for careless driving, not being able to produce insurance and having a child unrestrained in the car. As soon as the accident happened the Sherriff told us they have a "no blame" law iin Florida that says that if you are hit from behind then that driver is automatically responsible.

Of course what would happen if you were the car that hit the one in front I can't say for definite.

I had an accident a couple of years ago, someone hit me from behind. We was with Dollar, took the car back to the office on the 192 and swapped it with no problem.

Hi

Thanks for that. Hopefully it will not happen to anyone but just wondered what the position would be if it did

If you do have an accident you are not supposed to move until the police have been informed (and presumably attended). We had an accident some years back in a car park, all the phone lines were out as they had been struck by lightning, so the two vehicles involved, both still driveable drove to the nearest police station where the two drivers made a statement. We then went to report the accident to the Dollar office which was on the 192. They were very helpful and when we returned the car at the end of the holiday there were no problems at all.

Lyn is right. If you do not report it on the spot and have a police statement then the rental company may not cover you for any insurance as you are in breach of the terms. Also, if you are at fault (and this is confirmed by the police) then the rental company may not allow you to drive a car for the rest of your rental so you may need to nominate another driver for the rest of your stay.
