So sunny Essex it is then!
A few hours in Best Buy, lunch at Taco Bell, down to Sarfend for a few thrill rides, a quick paddle at Clacton and then dinner in the Outback at Basildon on the way home.
Does it get any better [msnwink]
Apparently it does - Sainsburys are now selling Mountain Dew [msntongue]

You can keep the Outback at Basildon, the service & food is terrible, we tried it last year after they closed the one at Staines, never again.[msncry]

I just happened to go in the apple store in cardiff today and the very first Ruby Tuesday is coming to the new St Davids @ centre.
Bottomless salad and hopefully a lovely rare steak. yum.. I do hope they do margaritas as well.
From their Facebook:
Company Overview:
After 1000's of you have petitioned us to launch Dew in the UK, we've decided to bring it to you! But in true Dew style we've added something a bit extra; Energy - to give you a kick when you most need it. Come join us and show us your support!
Mission:
Mountain Dew Energy is launching on the 3rd May and over the coming weeks! Pester your local petrol forecourts, motorway service stations, WHSmith Travel outlets, Sainsburys Local and large stores, Martin McColls newsagents and your local independent retailers to see if they're stocking the Dew!
It doesn't taste quite like MD regular but it's still pretty damn tasty!
It seems that Sainsburys are not currently selling it in the "drinks" section but some stores have it in the fridges at the front of the shop (i.e. by the sarnies). I also read somewhere today that BP are stocking it in some places - although that might stop soon if Obama keeps up the good work! [msnsad]
Years ago you could get Mountain Dew in the UK - which is where we first tried it. It was banned as it contains a chemical additive on the EU banned list, which is probably why they are only importing an energy version.
There is a small shop near Covent Garden where you can buy 'proper' Mountain Dew which is where we get our supplies from.
Wish Cheesecake Factory would open here and Andrew would like Panda Express.

We asked for Mountain Dew in a resturant in St Peters Beach and he said it was the highest suger drink even more than coco cola so i went with Lmonade as i was on a diet at the time ,But we both love it .
Wish Steak and Shake was in Uk , Dunkin Donut is in Spain but the company said UK can not have it shame.

Forgot to mention that after your Taco Bell you can finish it off with a Krispy Kreme as they are also in Lakeside but not as good as the one at Bluewater - there when the red light is on you get a free hot glazed doughnut.
I'm going to be a spoilsport here as if we get lots of these 'chains' and 'products' in UK, it will take away the element of having different things when I visit USA. Sorry, just my opinion for what it's worth[msnwink]
Sandra
I forgot the Krispy Kreme option Jill but I don't wanna feel too sick on all the "big" thrill rides at Southend - still nowt wrong with donuts for breakfast[msnsmile2]
For what it's worth, I agree with your sentiments Sandra (although I will make an exception for Taco Bell) - perhaps the answer is to frequent Harry Ramsbottoms when in Kissimmee [msnwink]

Oh Sandra I SO agree!! I was a little bit sad when Abercrombie & Fitch opened in London and then Hollister in Bluewater!!! I want to keep all those places in USA - that's what makes them so special!!

I hate that A&F in London, you have one member of staff on the tills with queues out the door and 8 menbers of staff dancing upstairs[msnmad]

once again I agree- it's like a club rather than a shop- you wander around for ages, get 'hey'-ed by about fifty beautiful people in flip flops (even in December), pick out a few seriously overpriced items that you try on after an hour's wait for the changing rooms, then wait a similar amount of time to pay, and then, when you finally get out (after having had your picture taken with the shirtless guy at the door) you look at your new purchase, only to see that it's a completely different colour than you thought it was in the darkness of the shop! Agh!
That said, I don't find a&f nearly as pretentious as this in America. It just seems to be the British adaptation.

The one at The Grove in Beverley Hills is exactly as you describe apart from the long wait times [msnscared].

I love Hollister over here, I find the prices are still cheap, and I try to limit myself to one or two visits a year.
A&F on the other hand is exactly as you have described. I went on the website today for the first time in ages and was shocked at how much the prices have risen. Is it the same over in the US or is it just in the UK?

I'm afraid so. I don't think there were any dancers (apart from Sarah and Freya getting carried away to the music [msnwink]) but they did have very dim lighting and the male models on the door.

As far as I can tell it's mostly here- prices in the US seem to be staying pretty constant, though of course we're not getting such good value for money because of the £-$ rate. I can't say for certain though, because I haven't been in America since last summer. I'm going over in July though, so I'll let you know [msntongue]
I'm with Sandra, lets keep our favourite US shops & eateries in the US. I have just come back from Spain and whilst there we visited Gibralter, I know Gib is British but I was surprised at how many of the shops were the same as ours, BHS. M&S, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, Evans even Morrisons etc.... As a shopoholic I found it pretty boring, I would hate that to happen with my favourite shops in the US comming here, spoiling my shopping trips when in the US.

I think that ship sailed a long time ago Lyn. We could all easily compile a long list of US shops and eateries that are very well established here now.
To name just a few - Gap, DKNY, Polo Ralph Lauren, McDonalds, Krispy Creme, numerous pizza chains and just about every coffee shop on the high street these days have US origins and we can confidently expect to see more Taco Bells in the next couple of years. Mind you, that's the case in almost every shopping mall in any major city in the world.
Oh well I'll just have to become a hermit till I go to the states, just shopping at my local co-op, and eating out at the local pub.[msnwink]
Went to Lakeside yesterday as I wanted the pet shop so decided to visit Taco Bell. They are giving out menu booklets explaining the items on offer. At the moment the menu is not the same as in the States but they hope to have more choices later. We were at the till moaning about the lack of cheese bean burritos and one of the servers spoke up and asked if we were familiar with Taco Bell in the States. We got talking and she was one of the Americans who had come over the help with the launch. she said if we wanted items from the US menu then we could ask for them and they would make them. Andrew tried it out on his way home from work today and sure enough he got his favourite item off the menu.

Jill, wish we'd read your post before we gave Taco Bell Lakeside a try yesterday. My hubby was also disappointed it wasn't the full menu so will try asking for his favourites next time. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed it. It was the kids' treat for good school reports, but just as much a treat for us!
Only 4 weeks to go till we can sample the real thing, though.
Sandra
Never been in Abercrombie and Fitch (although I've seen their name on sweatshirts - staff dancing upstairs?? male models on the door?? sounds fascinating), Hollister's (never heard of them until reading this thread) or eaten in Taco Bell.
So much to do, so little time before I hit 50... that cheese bean burrito sounds just like my kind of junk food!
Tonish, Abercrombie and Fitch is rather more suited to someone who is not close to hitting 50[msnwink][msnwink]

I was just over in Maine for 2 weeks there, and my friend Catherine ended up getting very carried away with the music, and doing an extremely enthusiastic 'running man' in a&f, with all of the male models watching her! [msntongue] Good to know that she's not alone!

Was in a lovely food shop in Marks Tey on Thursday when I saw lots of American foods on sale including Lucky Charms but at £7.50 a box they stayed on the shelf.
