You should be fine with a bottle of Calpol in your hold baggage.
For the flight you can get little sachets of individual doses that should not cause security any distress.
If you need any over there I would just ask the pharmacist in somewhere like Walmart
We always take plenty of Calpol with us in various forms. Usually a bottle in the suit case plus the Fastmelts or sachets in the hand luggage.

I have bad ears too Liesa..we use children's Motrin for my grandson...always have great stuff..
Hi Liesa
When we went in 2003 my youngest got an earache when we were out there and we ran out of the calpol sachets so the Chemist at Walgreens recommended Tylenol as the equivalent to Calpol and it worked just as well. I wouldn't have thought you would have trouble taking calpol in your hold luggage, we have to take lots of different prescription meds for my daughter's illness when we go and we have never had any trouble at customs and the like.

thanks for your help at least i know what we need to look for in the chemist... we never take little ones so never been a problem...but now there will be 6 aged 7 and under ..... i take over many meds and have had no probs even with bottles of oramorph... asked the pharmacist to put into a 100 ml bottle for the plane and another bigger one in the hold luggage

I would also check with the doctor that your grandaughter is fit to fly as I understand flying with an ear infection could lead to burst ear drum or permanent damage. I know I've seen programmes like airline where someone wasnt able to come back from Spain for over 2 weeks because of ear infection.
My friend took her 1 year old grandaughter to Australia and on the return trip did not know she had an ear infection but couldnt understand why she was different on the trip home to the way out where she was very calm but on the way back she had trouble pacifying her. Only when she got home did she find out that she had an ear infection and was told that the baby was probably in severe pain on the way home even though she had given her Calpol thinking she may be teething.

Thanks Steph, we saw the Dr this afternoon and her ear is red.... he has given 7 day course of antibiotics now so fingers crossed she will be well then... he has said shes ok to fly, hes listened to her chest and says shes to use an asthma pump for a while as she gets a bit chesty.. hence her grommet op was cancelled last week... so fingers crossed x now to find something to help her to chew etc for takeoff and landing... any thoughts anyone??
Does she still have a dummy or a bottle of drink, if so you could try that, I know my youngest still had a dummy at 2 years old, or any sweet that she would need to chew would do.

Hi Wendy, she hasnt had a dummy since she was tiny.... she did give up the bottle some months ago but when shes been poorly of late shes asked for it and to get her to drink during one really poorly time she had a bottle, she just would not drink anything, she wasnt long from being put in hospital.... so i said to my daughter keep the bottle around for the flight.... so will take one.... i know we can suck sweets but what to give to a 2 year old?? we will have 3 2 year olds with us... God help those other passengers me thinks!!!
Hi Liesa, what about trying Summer with a lollypop. As you are all there with her she would be safe with it.

Hi Liesa,
I too would recommend a hard lollipop, but hold off giving it until you are literally taxi-ing down the runway. It would probably be a good idea for all([msneek][msneek]) of your two year olds!
I would also recommend that you take enough Calpol with you to last the duration of your holiday, as children's Tylenol does not taste nice, and when my kids were young, could not bear the taste of it.

A standard bottle of Calpol is 100ml so you could take that in your handluggage or as Wendy suggests, the single dose sachets are a geat alternative and easy enough to buy in the uk.

As someone with bad ear problems..the pain comes at about 13 thousand feet..both ways..sometimes it not pain but a feeling like fluid in your head is going to burst out of your ears nose mouth..while up in the air my ears are fine..its like all my problems go..it can sometimes feel like you are choking that is the nasty part and the one I think makes kids with bad ears cry..the pain is very sharp but does not last long ...its just like a pop then the pain goes..Its rare I get the pain but the other feeling I get all the time..I give my kids a baby cup to drink from..or something with a straw..that can clear it

thanks all... gonna get a supply of calpol in each case.... and a bag of lollipops... xx will let you all know how they all faired xxxx
Liesa, my son used to have trouble with his ears flying [and I am like Chrissy] trust me, you need childrens earplanes -get them from Boots or even Tesco -you put them in the ears for tke off and can leave them in for whole flight- they keep the narrow tunnel open- as it is when it collapses that you get the pressurised feeling -my son is now 17 and won't travel without them- and neither would I- recommended to me by aENT nurse -and MOTRIN over there is good. Calpol is paracetamol based- paracetamol products are sold as containing acetaminophen which is paracetamol, so if you ar stuck, you can read the label.
fingers crossed for you on that flight!! [oh and I would try hard to keep her out of water with ear infections - not easy I know :( ]

I don't know how you call them in English, but my daughter, who's prone to ear infections too, has special ear plugs she wears when she goes swimming. When going to the ocean, where the waves can dislodge the plugs, she puts an elastic band (comes with the plugs) around her head that covers the ears. Hope I'm making myself clear here [msnembarrased]. I bought the whole package at the pharmacy.
Hiya Liesa, Long time since I have been on here. My daughter would not fly without earplanes now. I would also ask your doc if you can take some antibiotics with you just in case. I always take some for Lucy as she always gets an ear infection while on holiday. Hope you have a lovely time Liesa :D

thanks all for your help, i saw on the orlando sentinental online reports today about recall of some of their kids medicine... so typical...lol will take plenty of calpol.... will stick some in each case....
my daughter doesnt want to use earplanes on titch... she doesnt want to touch her ears... bit worried about the water side of it tho... maybe she will change her mind when we get there
thanks again all xx
If you get really stuck over in Florida, but her earache isn't too bad, CVS Pharmacy are marvellous for prescribing medicines that can just help out until you get to a doctor. There's a pharmacist on until late.
If you need a doctor, not sure where you are staying, but there are reports of a particularly good one out on Highway 27 but sorry, can't remember the name. Perhaps someone else on the forum can give you directions or make a recommendation.

We always get the below from Walmart Liesa. The kids prefer it to Calpol. They do a 2-11 year and 6-11 year version. We get the bubble gum version

We also get it shipped over from the US and Canada so that we do not run out over here! :D
Just to clarify, this is what the Walmart Pharmacist told us to give our daughter when she had an ear infection when we were getting married. It worked a treat! Acetaminpohen is Paracetamol. the americans call it differnt to the UK.
