We went to the beach today- only got a few hours as it was looking like it was going to rain and lucky we left when we did as it was torrential on the way home.
However we took a picnic and had a lovely time- its $5 to park on the beach and since we had taken sandwiches etc it made it a very cheap day. Ok so its a bit of a drive but it was a nice change from the parks, and I guess it will be much quieter this week with Spring break being over.

Just another idea for stranded Brits.

Hi Guy's
Can anybody help, we have been to Daytona Beach twice now and each time i didn't find the part of the beach where you can drive on?
Does anybody have a tom tom location address.
Regards Dave.

If you drive on the beach road from north to south , Look down each small inlet to see if you are allowed to go down there are places you cannot go on as it is soft sand but it will tell you which you can or not .
There is one on traffic lights that you can turn onto the beach so it is just by driving along you can find which one is open .
There are signs to tell you what time you have to be of the beach as the security in Jeeps come along and move people .
Hope you find a good place to park , You can hire bikes as well buy the hour to cycle on the beach.

If it is just the beach you want, there are loads of free car parks with toilet facilities and showers all along the A1A south of Cocoa Beach all the way past Melbourne Beach.

A good, and much improved, route is take the SR192 past Melbourne and turn right(South) on the A1A when you 'hit' the sea. The beaches are virtually deserted - especially during the week.

We enjoy a day out at Daytona too. We load up the car and take a picnic, deck chairs, beach umbrellas, beach tent and kites. Doesn't matter how much we take as the car is close to us on the beach. It's a busy beach but there is always something to watch and there are things for our teenage daughters (14 and 17yrs) to do eg bikes/quad bikes.

We've been to Cocoa Beach where its much quieter - less commercial. It great when the girls were younger and happy to just swim and make sand castles.

Have never driven on the beach although I have been tempted, always worried I would be breaking the car rental agreement[msnscared]
