Just wondered who was all out here stranded like us?

And maybe we can update each other with what flights back etc we have been offered.

At the mo we are going to be flying back on 29th to Manchester and will then have to get home from there to Glasgow.

We're stuck in Florida and have no idea when we'll get back as we were booked with Thomson to fly back to East Midlands last Friday. They are very good at keeping people up to date so far but won't give a date for the return as they say it will be as soon as possible.

Luckily our 7 bedroom home is free all week so we're not stuck for somewhere to stay but they are putting all other passengers up in the Hilton at Altemonte Springs with meals free of charge which we thought was very reasonable of them.

Not in Florida, but my parents came out to Shanghai to see us 3 weeks ago, were due to go back tomorrow. The earliest that they are going to be able to go now is the 3rd May - 2 whole weeks later.

Virgin have offered to cover accommodation and meals, but as they are staying with us, no need. They are trying to get them on earlier if they can..... knowing China, I bet the Virgin limo turns up tomorrow anyway!

We are out here as we were due to fly last Thursday. We have American guests due to arrive tomorrow so a friend has very kindly let us stay in her villa. At the present we were given a flight for Wednesday 21st, but if we cannot fly then goodness only knows when we will get back. My husband was due to start doing bathroom for a neighbour back in the UK and they have gone on a cruise as they only have the one bathroom! So if he does not get back it will have a knock on effect on all his other work, plus we have no income as he is self-employed!

Our son should have flown back Saturday and is stuck in New York - the earliest flight he can get back is Sunday 25th. Both he and his partner have experiments running in their labs they need to get back and attend to so they are rather worried.

We are stuck in Egypt. Were due to fly back from Sharm on saturday via Cairo. Thomas cook made us fly to Cairo on Saturday and have put us in a hotel there. Only problem Sharm was on a peaceful beach and all inclusive. cairo we are in a very expensive hotel that only has twin rooms, there are 3 of us and my son is actually taller than both his parent and we are now only on bed and breakfast.
Internet costs £20 a day but have found this cafe with free wifi.
I know where I would rather be stuck.

Stuck in Orlando, was due to fly back to London yesterday (Sat), earliest available flight back 28th - 11 day delay. Luckily been able to extend villa for 1 week, and just booked remaining 4 nights at hotel - Rosen Plaza on I-Drive, anyone know it?

Kids generally pleased at extra holiday, but eldest worried about losing revision time for imminent exams. Pretty disastrous for my work also - currently working on ccntract, which may be in danger now.

Hoping to at least enjoy the sun for the involuntary stay - but got drenched by the rain this afternoon[msnoo] Just read about Sea World's offer, though, which is a nice gesture[msnsmile]

My son is over here, due to fly back on Thursday 22nd but American Airlines have offered him the chance to change his flight now.
He is approaching exams in his final year at University so really needs to get back. We are going to hold on until tomorrow and then hopefully make a calculated decision about changing his flight or hoping it's all safe again by Thursday.

We are also stranded in our villa could be worse and not complaining. There are thousands of people in awful situations, I cant imagine what others are going through. We were due to fly back to the UK on Saturday 17th ready for the children to go back to school and I was due back into work on Tuesday. Luckily our next guests don't arrive until Saturday so we have an extra week catching up on jobs in the villa. Feel really bad about work and school but what can we do? All I want to make sure is that we get home safe. U.S airways have been pretty good and booked us onto the next available flight the 27th April!!!
At least we have had our holiday what about all those that have saved up for their 1st trip to Florida

More volcanic ash is spreading towards the UK so doubt if there will be many flights after tomorrow. Let's hope I am wrong as we really want to travel to MCO on Thursday.[msncry]

1st time on forum for a week or so since this all started last week.
Have been trying to imagine how I would feel if it was me, we are not going out till Oct but dont know what would be worse, not being able to go after looking forward to it for so long or being stuck out there and having to find somewhere to stay and most importantly how to pay for it and all the extra food/car-hire/fuel etc costs, especially reading some posts that it may be next week before people can get on flights, work and school would be least of worries
News at home is full of stories of people using all sorts of modes of transport to get back to smoewhere closer to home.
Current advice is to try and make way to channel ports and extra ferries are on to get you back to UK including 3 Royal Navy ships.
Talk is Madrid being used as a hub to receive UK flights from the Far East and US then fleets of buses to transfer to channel ports.
Latest news is some Northern airports to open tonight /tomorrow morn however this has been stated prev then rescinded closer to the time due to the movement of the ash cloud

Best of luck to all those stranded, how many of you have said why us??

Cunard were saying they had 1,000 people on a waiting list wanting to cross the Atlantic from Southampton - could be the quickest way now!

Just had an email from Virgin if anyone's stuck in Europe somewhere...

We are aware that due to the increased disruption being caused by the UK airspace restrictions, many people are being forced into organising alternative travel arrangements. Our chauffeur driven car supplier, Tristar have positioned chauffeurs across Europe in order to help with any urgent journeys to and from the UK, and their Reservations Agents are available 24 hours a day to offer any advice.

To find out more about these discounted rates please contact Tristar on (01895) 432000 to discuss your requirements.

We hope this information will be of use if you or your friends / family are affected.

My son just got his flight changed to May 2nd by American Airlines.

This means he has to stay here and write his Dissertation...... he's not actually that unhappy about that!!

Blott, I got this too. It did make me chuckle!<blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:Originally posted by blott
