I understand that now Alamo is part of Enterprise that they have reclassified their cars - down! I have booked an intermediate next week in Orlando and site says it's a Pontiac G5 but I understand this is a rebadged Cobalt which is listed as a compact elsewhere.

I need a reasonable size car for my height. Does anyone know if this information is correct?

We ordered an intermediate and chose a Mazda 3 from the line- its a decent sized car and my husband is 6ft 1" so plenty of room in it for him. All the intermidaite cars were a good size- can't remember what they all were as was very tired by the time we got to pick. I didn't notice many American cars though- I would have liked one but as I said we were too tired to bother by the time we chose and used to have a Mazda so decided to go with what we knew.

We fly out wednesday and we've booked an intermediate - i'll make a note of the types available and report back if someone hasn't beaten me to it.

Enterprise bought Vanguard who operate Alamo and National, so the 3 companies are very closely related (we can book National but not Enterprise through our deal with Alamo). This buyout was around 3 years ago if I recall correctly, so nothing has changed recently. The car classifications are the same as they were.

On the site is says G6 as the intermediate car which is a good bit bigger than the G5.At least with Alamo you can choose your car. Would be interested Wilf on what you see Wednesay.

Okey dokey - an intermediate is Alamo's midsize.

What was available today,

Saloon's

Kia Forte
Kia Spectra
Toyota Corolla
Hyundai Lantra
Chevy Impala
Mitsubishi Eclipse - 2 door.
Chrysler Sebring

Hatch's, all 5 door.

PT Cruiser
Chevy HHR
Nissan Versa
Pontiac Vibe
Dodge Caliber.

We went for the PT Cruiser, as this had the biggest opening for a hatch, and this (hopefully) will work for us for some furniture we aim to purchase this trip.

Alamo had the biggest queue - this was about 5pm (after the 11am virgin Gatwick-Orlando flight was delayed by an hour going out.) Took about 20 mins to get served.

This is how is seems to work - Wilf, you had booked the Intermediate 2 Door which tends to mean you get the Alamo Mid Size. If you book a 4 Door then you get the Standard Size. In general there is not much between the sizes, and often you can choose cars in both size categories (probably depending on how busy things are). Also Lynne you booked the 2 door so would typically get the Mid Size rather than the Standard size.

Roger,

Didn't see any named "Standard" ,but compact,Midsize,Full,SUV. And a honeymoon couple who had a booked icar/4 also got pointed at a midsize.
But never the less, happy with what we've taken.
