Alamo give you a rental car with a tank of fuel but charge you when you hand the car back. Can anyone tell me what the cost is? It would be either a Chrysler Sebring or a Dodge Charger?

When we picked up our car from Alamo we were charged forthe fuel on picking it up. With alamo it is no more than 10% above the pump price, unlike some others who have been known to charge over 50% above pump price.

Last year in Kansas City we even paid the pump price.... that's as fair as can be, but it might be they were late catching up [msnwink]. I think we paid $42 for a full-size.
You pay when you pick the car up.

Thanks La. It seems better to pay when you collect the car than at the end. I read somewhere that it was at the end.

I went through our last trip papers and found the rental contract. We actually paid $40.97 for a Full-size last July (it doesn't mean much for you today, as fuel price has probably varied, but it was the average price we saw on our travels in the area). The line on your contract says "fuel service option", which is not an option but mandatory if you went for Silver with USCarhire (company I recommend). All the other "charges" lines state "included", and we refused the extra insurance they (micely, no pressure) offered.

On the Alamo website the fuel option is offered at £2.57 a gallon, that's what they charge right now. But the price you are charged is the current one the day you pick up your car. $2.57 doesn't sound bad though. It means $43 for a Full-size.

Hope this helps! Have a nice vacation.[cheers]

But am I right in thinking that if you go with the Gold Option there is no extra charge for fuel???????

You get a free tank of gas on pick up and then return empty? Is this right?

Right.

The OP asking the charge for a tank of fuel I assume he/she went for the Silver option.
