Hi, We've just returned home from our second trip to Florida and want to do our bit to share our opinions on one of the better kept secrets in Central Florida.
Silver Springs is ideal if you want to treat yourselves to a relaxing few hours. We felt as if we'd been transported back a couple of decades to a time when you got your entertainment without the need to be thrown through the air at breakneck speeds. The glass-bottom boats trundle along at 4-5mph and give a great view of alligators, bass, gar and turtles going about their business undisturbed. You also get to see the source of a significant river emerging from the ground; something I had never seen before.
All in all a leisurely afternoon of simple pleasures reminiscent of a more innocent age.
The only drawback is the lengthy drive from Kissimee (about an hour and a half using the major roads).
btw: you should be able to find a voucher or deal to get the entrance price down to around $20 (the gate price is a fairly steep $33).
