Roger,

What's the latest on this.
I've booked my car hire, going 22nd May - do you think it will be available by then?

I hate Alamo's hard-sell and find it very hard to keep being nice and saying no thank-you[msnmad]

I'll post once this is available but we have been told availability should be from quarter 1 this year, meaning hopefully anytime between now and end of March.

Fingers crossed then.

Roger,

Got my Alamo car voucher for late May - is the self check-in facility going to be available by then?

Sue, Have you seen my topic within this section regarding the Alamo Self Check-in at Orlando International?

When I was there last week, Alamo have now introduced self check-in kiosks which negate the need to stand in line. However, to use the kiosk you need to hold a North American or Canadian driving licence and have booked the car using a credit card and have that credit card with you. There were very few people able to take advantage of the kiosks, and a very long queue for the check-in desks! It took about an hour from joining the queue to reaching the desk.

David,

I had seen your post - it was that that prompted me to ask Roger if this was available yet - it is hopefully going to be available for customers who have booked their car through US Car Hire.

The self-service kiosks have been around for over well over a year now.

Hoping that Roger will have some good news soon

Any news on cars booked through USCARHIRE being able to use these yet. Was thinking of trying ALamo this time.

I have booked Alamo through US carhire for pickup in Miami. I have just pre-registered all my details online at the following web page.

https://www.alamodirectroad.com/directroad/index.jsp

after completion I just got confirmation of registration and an instruction to go to the special directroad check in desk. MCO was listed under the airports where this service was available.

Only the main driver details could be listed though.

Has anyone else used this service?

vickk,

I have just done the same but on the straight www.alamo.com site. Using the booking number from my voucher and completing the forms all went through and I've now got a confirmation number from Alamo.

Am I right in saying that now I can go direct to collect the car and bypass the customer desk?

BTW the initial screens say you can only do this if you have a US or Canadian driver licence, but when you have to fill out the driving licence details the country drop down covers nearly every country including the UK.

Fingers crossed.

Roger do you foresee any issues?

Thanks.

I think I have found my answer.

This is the "Save Time" option that I have completed and I still have to go to the Rental Counter but when I give them this number they will key it in and all my info will be there. There will be no delay in the counter staff having to enter it again.

Any one else done this?

Roger and you confirm if I have got this right?

Thanks,

roger

Yes, the Save Time option is available to our customers. This does not mean you can bypass the queue, but it does mean your paperwork will be printed and waiting for your arrival.

What is particularly good about this is that when you fill in the forms online before you go, you select whether you want any of the options like unnecessary insurance, enhanced break down cover or pre-paid fuel. This means that you are not subject to any pressure from sales staff to take unwanted extras.

I have gone through Alamo at Miami this morning and they have a seperate desk for directroad customers. was not manned though as the normal desks were empty at 9 this morning. in and out in 5 mins, no sales hassle and the new facility has only been open a week.

they said that if there had been long lines then the directroad desk would have been manned and i could have saved time.

just did the Save time option and it allowed me to add the additional driver. So hopefully all set now as we go on Thursday

Well, arrived in Miami yesterday and the new car rental place is very s[bad language filtered out]y indeeed. Did an impressive run towards the Alamo desk which is right at the back of the building as I could see the queue was already very long. With my Direct Road online confirmation hot in my hand I headed over to their counter only to be told that the service was not 'operational' today and I had to join the normal queue (much to the delight of all the other queuers [msnembarrased]).

Queue time was an hour and even though I had done EVERYTHING online I was still heavily pressured to upgrade the car (I had chosen a Midsize SUV) and was told at least 3 times that I did not have enough insurance cover - followed by lots of scare stories.

I just smiled and said "Just hand over the keys now please - I am very tired". We had a 3+ hour drive ahead of us so I was in no mood for game-playing. The guy just shrugged and said "Oh well, your loss!"

Charming...!

I arrived yesterday in Orlando having done the save time option. Asked at desk and had to join regular queue although it only had about 2 parties in front of me as I went down whilee hubby was waiting for luggage upstairs
Got to counter and girl commented that I had saved her time typing. Got paperwork in minutes ( had to ring hubby to come down to sign papers ) she did ask if I wanted extra roadside or sat nav but no pressure.
There were only about 5 cars in 7 seater aisle though. We got nice Sienna which has 8 seats so it is great. Wonder ehat whould have happened if further down queue. it had got big by the time we were leaving the counter . All together a great experience and so much better than the wait we had with budget last year
Thanks for the advice to fill out info in advance.

Does anyone know if all drivers need to be present at the desk, or would a copy of their driving license be enough? I ask because we are a party of eight with two cars booked, but I really don't want the queues to be enormous by the time we get our luggage, so I was hoping to have two adults at the car desk, and two collecting the luggage. Is this possible?

Thanks

Nuala

Both of us had to sign the documents. Ring up to luggage to get them to come down to sign when paperwork ready and swap over. That might work. I was so quick that coudl have gone for luggage after I got car as only 2 bags had arrived .

If you are sending people ahead, then remember they will need separate customs forms, unless you mean that you will not take the bags on the transit and some wait at the second belt.
All drivers usually have to sign. I guess though if you send people ahead, then they can wait with the paperwork to the side of the desk for you to arrive, or maybe add the other drivers at the booth?

Anyone had anymore experiences with this 'Fast Check In' yet please?

Also how do I go about this online jobbie? Do I need to get the details from my Travel Agent etc?

And finally [:I]

Where is the luggage collection compared to the Alamo car registration thingy? I was going to do the car thing while the missus did the bag hunt. [^]

Thanks in advance

Did I mention... only 49 days??? :D

I did this. Straight downstairs from luggage reclaim, turn right (or left if you use the lift!!) and then just walk along and you will see Alamo signs. Main door to garage behind you, over road, up one flight and then select your car. Easy

This is the link you need to use

https://www.alamo.com/index.do?action=/hotDealsTemplate&msg=alamo-intlSaveTime

The Confirmation Number is shown on your voucher as "Supplier Confirmation" - enter it on the Alamo site minus the word 'COUNT' at the end.

hi all ,

just back from the Sunshine State,
I registered car hire details with Alamo Save time. printed paperwork before i went. On arrival i joined queue at rental desk as normal, lucky a rep was checking everyone had vouchers , licence etc
ready and when he noticed what i had done he sent me straight to the
Alamo garage, picked my car and the guy at security swiped my visa card and i was on my way ,sorted!

So if you are heading over soon register at the Alamo webpage,
and save a bit of time. I reckon i saved a 30min wait at the rental desk..

Hi Roger

I registered this way in LOctober with no problems, however I just tried to register the supplier Confirmation Numvber (leaving out the word count)for our upcomming trip and it came back saying this was booked through an agent and that I should contact them.

Can you send an email (info@uscarhire.co.uk) with your order number and so we can look in to it for you. Let Roulla know this is in reference to the post on the forum that I replied to.

Have just found the following on Alamo Web Site. It states to register you must have a US or Canadian Drivers License, so it looks like we cannot use this feature in future, there are a lot of Brits going through Alamo daily it is a shame we cannot be treated better.

To qualify for Online Check-In, you must:

•Meet minimum rental age requirements.
•Have a valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license.
•Provide a valid major credit card.
•Alamo does not accept debit cards at time of rental. Although a debit card may be accepted online, you will not be able to process your transaction at time of rental.
•Not available for some specialty class vehicles.
•The following credit cards may be used to complete your Online Check-Insm transaction:
U.S. issued credit cards: Mastercard, VISA, American Express, Discover
Canada issued credit cards: American Express, Mastercard, VISA
Online Check-Insm is not available with reservations that contain the following:

•Reservation is more than 30 days in duration.
•Reservation is "On Request".
•Additional equipment such as child seat/toddler seat/infant seat or ski racks, etc. Rentals requiring additional
equipment must go to the rental counter.
•Coupon (including ecoupons) used with reservation.
•Voucher used with reservation.
•Applicant Business Account Number used with reservation.
•Central Bill Number used with reservation.

Yes, this is not available to no US residents (I thought you were trying to register for Direct Road).

We're still hoping soon to have an option for our customers to be able to use the kiosks, but I'm hesitant to give a time scale as these things take such a long time to reach agreement!

We had not registered, but although the quueue was quite long we did not wait anything like an hour, and the whole facility seemed very well organised. Lots of cars to choose from, and a very efficient shuttle system to and from the airport.

We felt that it was a considerable improvement on the old system where all the different car hire companies were scattered along Le Jeune Rd.

Thanks for that. Choosing my own car was part of the reason I always fly into MCO... I may have to reconsider if it has a significant cost saving.
