7 months and 27 days.

We have booked to go for next summer, we are going via New York and rd tripping down to Orlando, looking forward to it, as some of you know I am in plaster at the moment and have just come out of hospital, I had surgery on Friday to reduce the main bone in my foot and then have the large joint replaced on my big toe, the a plate and screws put in and then my bones fused togeter, at the moment I am in plaster to my knee and no weight to be put on it for 6 weeks and then crutches for 6 weeks (we will see what happens) I have to say I thought it would be easy to get around on crutches, how wrong I was, I have a zimmer as well to get round the house hopping, I will have arms like steel at the end of it - lol, now people that know me know what I am like and I dont do nothing easily, I have Rob at home looking after me, since I came home yesterday there have been a few tears and lots of laughter, on the up side I have done all my xmas shopping and it just needs wrapping, big downside - not driving[msnsad][msnsad] But am a lot better off than some people. I also get time to plan our rd trip.[msnsmile]

Hi Jacqueline,
Keep laughing and you'll get through the next few weeks :D
Your next trip sounds fab, with time on your hands you can plan everything for it.

Have fun planning & take care x

Hope you have a good recovery. At least if your arms get stronger you will be able to continue to compose your great 'trip reports' and they may be even longer!!![msnwink]

Hi Jacqueline, Just wanted to give you a tip and suggest you get a pair of fingerless gloves ( the leather type that cyclists use )You will be amazed at how quick you get BIG blisters from using crutches!.

Yep, I'm sure you want to consider that sound advice very seriously, possibly before the blisters (it hurts... bad... and you probably don't need another source of pain [msnwink]).
Hope you recover and heal fast, and have a good time planning your next vacation to Florida [clap].

Hope you have a speedy recovery.

We are thinking of doing the same road trip next year. How long are you thinking of taking to drive down and
stop off?

Thank you all for your messages, at the moment there will be no chance of blisters as I can only put my foot down for 5 mins every hour, so apart from bathroom and up and down to bed I am sat with leg up, all I can say is it had better have worked!!!! Am getting good at going around on my behind.

Pamela, we havent decided yet on the route or how long but we are out for nearly 5 weeks, we want to see Washington, I would like to do the Blue Ridge Parkway and see more of the Carolina's, so it could be quite a trip down.

Ukman we are flying code share, we go direct from Manchester to Newark and return from Orlando with Virgin, I think off hand it was about £629 each.We were pleased with it as direct flights with Virgin were coming in at around £740 each, the continental ones did go up while we were looking but I left it to the next day and they had come down so i boooked quickly as they then went back to over £1,000 each, they told me it was something to do with Virgin seats.
