View Full Version : continental airlines
Have anyone got experience of flying with continental from gatwick to mco, normally travel with virgin, but have never flown with the family at large over the summer, july and virgin is looking at £750+ but continental is showing at £598 per adult, big saving. So i am tempted to use continental, any advice appreciated.

is the flight via newark which is continental's hub?--i have flown continental from manchester and would do so again-professional, courteous-no problems at all
the return leg is a stop over in newark
We use Continental from Bristol via Newark, no problems at all.

Is the outgoing leg direct because it could actually be operated by Virgin?

Just make sure your stop over in Newark is enough time to make the connection.
although many have made it with a connecting time of 30 mins or so. Delays are always possible, we had a delay one year and the plane should have left 15 mins after we arrived in Newark, althought he connecting flight was also delayed.
coming back on the return leg can be quite difficult if you have delays and miss the international connection as that could be last one of the day, and you will have to wait 24 hours for the next one.
although for the past 6 years I have flown Continental from Bristol via newark and will always do it, we have had the odd delay but I leave enough time in between at least 2 hours, but it can be done at a running pace with 1 hour 15 mins (going out)
But is you ask most of the airline staff they are more than happy to say you can connect your flight with 30 mins in between. For me my nerves could not take the challenge. Once is enough....
Hi There
Just check your route.I work at Gatwick if your flying direct to MCO on Continental your be on a Virgin aircraft as they code share.Continental buy a number of seats from Virgin.Sometimes there are a lot more than Virgins price sometimes cheaper.
I have flown Continental via Newark 2 years running and never had a problem. One of the flights was direct and was on a Virgin plane which was less roomy and quite cramped compared to Continental.
Never flown from Gatwick but have from Manchester and can say that they are our preffered form of air travel to Florida.
You will stop off at Newark NY and pass through imigration there which can help as when you arrive on Orlando you just collect your baggage and walk straight out of the airport and collect your car.

I have flown with Continental, and it was probably one of the best transatlantic flights we have ever had. While I would love to fly direct all of the time, the choice and price from Manchester is prohibitive. If we can't fly direct, I will always choose Continental first to see if they have availability. I would definitely recommend them.[msnsmile]

We were recently looking at flights with Continental from Heathrow as they were coming up approx £150 cheaper than the Manchester flights and when saving £600 that pays for your car hire and some park tickets
We would use Continental as our first choice as long as you don't mind the change at Newark, and its usually one of the cheapest!
