We have just returned from Florida having rented a car fom Alamo along with a SatNav. However the SatNav was rubbish and didn't even recognise our rented villa despite it being 6 years old. Also when plugged in it frequently switched itself off and was generally rubbish.
However when we returned the car back to the airport I casually complained about the unit and they instantly offered a full refund, which I happily accepted. Might be of use to others if they experience the same problem. To be honest once you get used to the roads I don't think they are that useful.

For me the thing about Sat Nav is that when you really need it, you're very glad you have it. I've had in in my cars for the past 12 years and use it maybe 2 or 3 times a month but it really earns it keep on those occasions.
If you know your way around it really isn't worth the cost for me.

That is why we offer our own units, we make sure they are up to date and manually program any villa locations that are new and not yet on the mapping system.

We hired a sat nav through here and it worked fine. We needed one as we were travelling from North Carolina to Florida. Martin had already logged in our NC hotel address and when we arrived in NC we turned it on and did not have any problems throughout our stay. Last year whilst in California we decided last minute to hire a car for a day and we needed a sat nav to get out of San Fran - that was a disaster. We got part way to Monterrey and it stopped working and would not charge at all so worked for about 30 minutes. We got a refund but it was a nuisance when we needed a sat nav to have one that did not work.
I like to have a Sat Nav, but I also like to have a map as back up.

Our friend got his from the UK based co and it was already programmed in and updated. Unfortunately we tried to also rent it from those guys but they had run out! Moral of the story...order early.
