Hi,

We are thinking of visiting Sarsota for a week and staying in a hotel instead of a villa next time we visit Florida and was wondering what there is to do in the evening. Any ideas? We are a family of 3 with a seven year old boy.

Sarasota is quite a cultural city. The main part of the city is on the mainland, the 'fun' part is in the outlying island that includes St. Armand's Circle and Long Boat Key. The city of Sarasota on the mainland contains a superb public library, a Whole Food store, a fun park at the marina and Marina Jacks for drinks and food. Marie Selby Gardens interesting but perhaps not for a 7 year old.

Across the Ringling Bridge is St. Armand's Circle with Kilwin's ice cream and fudge emporioum and lots of shops and restaurants. Just north of there is the world-renowned Mote Marine Centre with lots to do to interest a family. Access to deserted beaches is available further along Long Boat Key, look for the blue and white notices on the sea-side of the road - they are quite difficult to spot.
