we have booked for three weeks in Nov 2010.
I have been monitoring car prices on uscarhire for the last month or so.
We are looking to hire a 7 seater minivan for the three weeks.
Currently only Alamos price is out for next year.

The current prices are as follows:
Gold insurance - £710
Silver Insurance - £601

As you can see there is £110 difference in price.
I was reading the fuel note on the website and as i understand, it says with silver you have to pay for a full tank of fuel when you pick the car up, but you can return it empty, and with gold you dont have to pay for any fuel when you pick the car up, and you can also return it empty.
also, the note says that they charge you extortionate rates for a full tank of petrol (double normal prices) so am wondering if anyone can give me some advice on which package to go for, i have not hired before in florida so its all new to me.

We would be staying in a Disney hotel, and would only be using the car for golf trips, driving to non disney parks (including bushc gardens once) and maybe a trip to Jacksonville Sawgrass golf course. Apart from that the car will stay in the hotel car park.

any tips would be appreciated.
is the extra £110 for the gold insurance worth it for the amount of petrol i am going to use? Or would a full tank of petrol cost us more than £110 at the desk when we pick it up for a 7 seater?

thanks in advance for all your help!

Which insurance you take may depend on how many of you want to drive. More people are insured on the Gold. The actual level of cover is the same on both I think. For trips of 3 weeks with only 1 driver we think that Silver works out as better value. You won't be charged £110 for a tank of fuel.

yes it will only be me who is driving..

it think all that i am concerned about is, is it going to cost more than £110 ($180) for fuel when we pick it up.

although also bearing in mind am not ready to book now, other companies may have better prices when they come out

If it costs you $180 to fill your tank then I will eat my hat- although you might find a cheaper site for price this site is second to none for customer service

We've found Alamo very fair with their fuel prices, this july they charged us about the same price we found "outside", give or take a few cents. We paid $42 for a full-size. I very much doubt it would be $180 even for a 7-seater, although things can change till you go.

sorry by other companies i meant other quotes you can get through the uscarhire site(!)
heard so many good things about them through this site i will definately be using them.

Lafifille - so by the sounds of it, silver will probbly be the best package to select.

When you are renting for 3 weeks, I usually find the silver a better option slightly cheaper if you don't need extra drivers
