If they are 240v they will not work in the USA.

Our daughter took UK straighteners first time she had them and they just didn't warm up at all! We haven't bothered to take them since.

Yes you can take them in your hand baggage but as the others have said they will probably only get warm at best.

I've just bought my daughter some new GHDs and they claim to be universal voltage. They work between 110v and 230/240 I was surprised there isn't a switch but the manual says it selects the correct voltage automatically.

I take my GHD's in my hand luggage and they work fine, couldn't cope without them[msnwink]
Hi steph goodrum, ive also got the new ghds as long as they are mark 4 they will work perfectly, ive taken mine to new york and florida, not sure if you can take them in your hand luggage id phone the airline to double check :D
Oh forgot to mention if you take the screw out of the middle of the plug they turn into the us 2 pin plug, its a great idea have a look:D

Thanks for that Steelo. She's off in a couple of weeks to Boston and The Vineyard and hadn't decided whether to take them, it's good to know they do work as they should.
It's the MK1V salon one. We hadnt noticed that with the screw on the plug, that's a handy tip. Havent tried it yet as she was a bit wary as we only bought them a couple of weeks ago.

Steelo
Don't know if my daughters are different to your for some reason but I did as suggested and took the centre screw out and inside it has a 2 pin plug but it is the round Euro plug not flat Us one.

Hi,
I took my GHD's in their box in my hand luggage a few weeks ago and it was fine - was so scared of them going missing!

Hi steph goodrum, yes my hubby has just corrected me too [msnembarrased] But still a good idea,[clap][clap]
