I'm planning a trip to Orlando over xmas and thinking about heading down to Miami for a few days as I've never been there. Ever since buying the villa in Orlando, I've become less interested in hotels and thought it might be nice to book an apartment or villa down there.

However, on searching around you can rent properties in wildly varying locations, so does anyone have any recommendations on the best areas to stay in and if there are areas to avoid?

I usually want to stay on the beach there. Condos and villas are going to have a istay, so if you want just a few days you may be limited to hotels. You can try fractional ownership places like Newport Beachside resort. They will rent for just a few nights.
