At an exchange rate of $1.50 to £1, taking a US gallon at 3.8 litres to a UK gallon of 4.546 litres, the equivalent cost is £2.10 per UK gallon.

It may be cheaper , but when you take into account how inefficient their cars are and the much larger distance between shops, etc, the average Americans fuel bill is about the same as ours.

How many miles are you getting out of a tank of fuel? in my experience it is very similar to cars in the UK. Dont forget that a US gallon is smaller in capacity to a imperial gallon.

But the car did about half what our car at home does and whilst the gallon is smaller it's not half the quantity is it? Can't remember how many miles to the tank as that was last Aug/Sept![msnembarrased]

Price of gas is rising at the moment. Getting near $3 a gallon again. That is double what it was a few months back. It goes down as quick as it goes up though. It rose to almost $4 a gallon last year and then dropped right back to $1.50 in a couple of months.
