change of named driver

Hi folks ,

we have booked a car through this site for 3 weeks Dec/Jan , Its with alamo from Orlando MCO , the thing is for the first 2 weeks its going to be my husband and I on the insurance, but we were wondering if it possible to change the named drivers for the 3rd week to my husband and my son who is coming out for the last week.

If it is possible would we have to go back to Orlando airport to do the change or is there another closer office to Davenport/Kissimmee.

If you have booked this on the Silver option then it only allows 2 named drivers over the rental period. So swapping to a different driver part way through will cost an additional driver fee.

if you are on the Gold option then you can have up to 4 drivers. You just need to go to any convenient depot to add your son when he arrives, before he can drive.

but what I meant was taking the 2nd named driver [ me ] off altogether and add my son instead.

I have actually never driven in Florida[ and dont really intend to] but when my husband and are on our own I always just add my name in case of emergency, a friend used to hire a car with her husband but didnt put her name down until one day her husband tripped and broke his ankle so she had no way of getting him to a medical centre .

I have looked at the difference in cost for silver to gold and for a 3 week hire but there is quite a big difference especially as my son will only be in florida for the last 7 days .

I did understand what you meant and in my answer I was saying that if you are added as second driver when you arrive, then adding your son part way through makes him a 3rd driver even if at that point you are taken off.

The only other way around it is for you not to be added as a second driver when you collect the car, so only your husband will drive. Then when your son arrives he can be added as second driver.

Ah right I see what you mean now, I just thought if my name was taken off the insurance then it would still be only 2 named drivers not three.
