We are moving to Shanghai to live for 12 months at the start of July, house chosen, schools picked, bank accounts sorted and pretty much ready to go.

The house is imported from North America and the furniture we have chosen is all American sizes. I am going back and forwards a few times between now and July and wanted to take Bed Linen over with me on one of the trips so that I can get the house set up and we are quite fussy (has to be at least a 600 count egyptian cotton). Quality bedding is hard to find out there, but I am not sure what sizes to order.

Is a queen size (US) what we call a King size in the UK and a King size (US) what we call a Superking? Or do I have to source linen from the US for it to fit?

There are quite a few bed sets to get and I would hate to get it wrong.

Anyones help would be appreciated.[msnsmile2]

For what it's worth, Wikipedia says you're right:
US/Aus) Queen / (UK/Ire) King : 60 × 80 in / 5’ × 6’8#8243; / 152 × 203 cm

I'm so glad we French just talk about "double beds" and throw in the width in cms (140 / 160)... it sure avoids all this confusion [msnscared].

None of my biz but if you're going several times, can't you take just one set (even one piece) on the first trip to check it out, and exchange it if it doesn't work? Or have someone there precisely measure the beds? I think I'm just babbling here, sorry [msnembarrased].

If the beds are American sizes I think you will find that if you take bedding from the UK there is a good chance it won't fit. Even allowing for the 5' US Queen being UK King, the mattresses are so much deeper in the US.

I always bring bedding back from the US because they make the sheets to fit mattressess up to 19" of more deep, where the UK sheets seem to fit where they touch quite often, even though the mattress we have isn;t particularly deep.

I hadn't thought about that, it is going to be hard to get access as the house isn't ready until the 1st July (which is why the family are moving out later) and even if I could get in, we are having new furniture put in anyway, I think I might have to try and speak to the developer that we are renting from to see if they can help as they are providing all the new furniture as well.

There are 5 beds to do so getting it wrong could be expensive and I will be really unpopular if the beds aren't ready for people to sleep in after a 13 hour flight!![msnscared]

In America there is a king bed and a super king bed , We always get sheets a little bigger as they can shrink as all cottons do in the wash a little and at least you can tuck more under the mattress .
Hope this helps
