This might seem a daft question but is it ok to use UK washing powder in US washing machines etc?
thanks
Yes, of course, we always take our Persil with us!
The main thing is not to use UK loo paper in US loos - the drainage pipes are much smaller in the US and our 'thick and fluffy' type of paper tends to block them up.
We never travel without our UK soft loo rolls!! Not had any problems in the 'blockage dept'.

I always take my Ariel liquid tabs. Don't like US washing powder

I much prefer the smell of the american 'Tide' washing powder and have even brought a box back to UK once!!

Allergies at a guess, it is quite common.

I wouldn't waste space in the suitcase with loo rolls because if you are unlucky and end up with a blocked loo you could get landed with a hefty charge from the management company for unblocking it. All villas will supply at least 1 roll of loo roll per toilet so you won't need any for when you first arrive and it's pretty cheap to buy in the supermarkets.
It can be worth taking washing powder, especially if you have allergies and dishwashing tablets with you as it saves you buying large packs.

We get our washing powder and diswasher powder from Dollartree. They are the right size for a 2 week stay, we're close to a Walmart but they only sell huge packs of everything.
Also love to browse around Dollartree, amazing what you find there:D
I use the loo roll to fill the cases up as I leave most of my Florida clothes in our owners closet so they are a good space filler along with kitchen roll. I need a case when I come back for all the shopping[msnwink] Have done this at 5 different homes during the past 16 years and the paper has not caused a problem. I bet it will do now!!!
Sandra
Most machines in the US are top loaders so don't need the non foaming type of wash powder so if you bring it back you can't put it in a front loader.
I buy both toilet rolls and washing powder from Walmart and the one near us sells small packets of both. I think the toilet paper is much better now than it used to be and is quite soft but the pieces are smaller than the UK ones.

Sandra[/quote]All I can say is that you're obviously very lucky Sandra as plenty of our guests in the past have managed to block loos. Since we've told them not to take UK loo paper, we haven't had a problem.
You can get really good loo paper in the US anyway - Cottonelle (a US brand) is really good and they also sell a US version of Charmin there. It's not exactly on ration or in short supply!

You need to learn how to use a good old fashioned plunger!

I'm quite capable of using a plunger thank you.
I doubt however that the majority of guests would be willing to tackle a blocked toilet, the usual thing is for them to call out the management company.
