I noted this on another form and got concerned as there was no response to confirm or contradict the situation. So I thought I'd get a valued opinion on this forum.
Basically it comes down to a customer picking up a rental confident in the knowledge that they have already covered all insurance aspects but the agent at the rental desk advises that your "all inclusive, gold star, bulletproof" insurance does not cover the eventuality that if you are in a collision, you will get a replacement care etc, but you are not covered for the loss of income the rental company will have when the car is off the road for repair and not earning dollars. The Rental company would pursue for this loss of income.
Well what do you think? Is this another attempt to stick it to us when we are not looking or is there a loophole in the insurance?
I must say though I have never been in the position nor has this been put to me when picking up a car.
As you probably are all well versed in saying "no thank you everything is covered", when we collect our cars this is one situation that I wonder what I would reply to if it was said to me.
This is incorrect. The rental companies will not try to take money from you for loss of rental income etc. Nor is there an insurance policy they can sell you to cover this.
I'm speaking from the point of view of the car rental we sell. Obviously I can not comment on how it works for cars booked through other agents, but I'm sure it will be the same. Sound like someone is scare-mongering.<blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:Originally posted by DLB-GOUROCK

Roger,
Thanks for the reassurance.
Thinking of this from an insurance point of view ... if the car rental company did try to pursue for loss of income, would that not be covered by the third party aspect of your insurance ... in that the car rental company is a third party, and any damages to a third party (be they loss/damage to property or loss of income) are covered by third party insurance ... which is the minimum coverage required to drive.

Someone bumped into us on one visit and the car was illegal to drive (to say the least). The police told us to drive it back to the airport hire office and collect a new car - he told us no-one would pull us over as they were all out on calls but he informed the 'office' anyway.
When we returned the car to Budget and 'limped' up to their car return bit the staff were amazing. They took control, we had to go to the desk to sign out the new car but all they were concerned about was our health - no question of the car being off the road etc, etc. So I think I can safely say booking from this site was a god send to us as everything was covered.

Mary,
Glad to hear that you were taken care of and you survived your ordeal.
Also I'm reassured that booking through this site will be hassle free and trusting Roger to have in place good contracts / relationships with the rental companies.
I previously emailed Roger about another matter and he answered very quickly and I'm not even a customer.
However intent to book soon.
