View Full Version : 15 seater minivan
Does anyone know twhethe cost to fill the fuel tank of a 15 seater minivan? Just wondering whether we should book the gold or silver option
Denise, petrol/gas prices have gone down so much (to around $1.59 a gallon) that the difference isn't exactly price critical. Of course, the car rental company add a premium for filling the vehicle up on return - they've got to employ someone to do this.
Generally if you're going for more than two weeks or so and have less drivers, then Silver is usually the best option. Two weeks or thereabouts and more drivers, then Gold is probably the best option.
One thing to note is that only Alamo offer the 15 seater. Alamo (unlike the others) charge a much more sensible rate for the fuel, typically the pump price (or just a few cents over the pump price).

Taking tax into account, a US gallon costs about £1.20. As the rental difference between Gold and Silver is about £67 per week, you'd have to have a tank capacity of around 60 gallons to make the Gold option worthwhile for a week and 120 gallons for 2 weeks! I doubt the tank holds more than 30-35 gallons.
Unless you have more than 2 drivers, Silver has to be the better option. Even if you do have more drivers, Gold might not be the way to go.
Roger,is it possible to collect full and return full on the silver option with alamo and therefore not pay them for the tank of fuel?
No, Alamo are very strict on this. Budget always expect you to return full and Dollar and Thrifty will usually allow you to.
