Hello my frinds, i used to live in ny for 34 yrs, now i live in puerto rico for the last 8 yrs. the biggest mistake of my life. no jobs, $5.15 an hour. I have a family of 4. . My husband is going to nursing school here. Almost finished[8D]. my husbands brother is buying a house there in orlanda and has invited us to live with him until we get on our feet over there. We have had a hard lifve and we are looking for a better way for out kids. can anyone give us some advice about moving there? hows the rent, food, way of life? I also need an operation for my feet. And here in puerto rico they have no specialists that are covered by the tripple sss reform medical card. i really need this operation. Are there any specialists there for me? Any way you know i have a thousand and 1 questions. Bless you for taking the time to read. god blesss... mary[:I]

Hi Poochie

I can't really give you that much specific advice apart from having a look at this website http://www.florida-relocation.com/ which has quite a bit of relocation info.

If your husband will be an RN when he qualifies, then there is a good possibility of work locally although I understand that pay is not too high in the area for unskilled workers.

As far as the operation you need on your feet is concerned, there are lots of specialists in the area although if you need info about Medicaid, etc then try this website http://www.medicaid.com/

If you're eventually looking to rent accommodation, then http://www.rent.com will give you some idea of apartment rental prices in the area.

Buying a house here is cheaper than in New York, rents not too bad. I find food in the supermarkets expensive but eating out is cheap. I am assuming as you lived in NY for many years, visas are not an issue but if they are then nursing is on of the best careers as you can go straight to green card. They have a 15.6% nursing shortage in Florida so I would think your husband would be able to find a job though there is a conversion course to be done for anyone who trained outside the US. Healthcare and health insurance are expensive in the US but I am sure there are specialiss here for every eventuality.
