Hi!
We are planning on renting a villa with pool near Disney (max 20 mins). Could someone recommend a fairly new gated community with good tennis courts?
The idea is to play tennis, visit a few parks and do a lot of shopping. So it would be best if we stayed somewhere where it is easy to reach both the parks and the outlet malls.
This is our first trip to Orlando so I don`t know the area at all.

Quite a few communities have tennis courts. Our own, Esprit, has both tennis and basketball courts.
Why not put this requirement in your request for villas? However, I would not limit myself to gated communities only or you will miss out on some great places to stay, and there really is no problem with communities which aren't gated.

Highgate Park on Legacy Park has a tennis court. It is a beautiful new gated community which was completed last year.

I'd agree with Ellie
There are many communities with tennis courts (at Hampton Lakes we have tennis, sand volleyball and basketball courts) and none of our guests have ever felt less secure because the community isnt gated. In fact somebody posted the other day about a community they stayed on (cant remember which where they felt it was any use as the gates were left open.

The community does not have to be gated but I would be happy if it is. I find it quite a job trying to study dozens of communities to find out if they have tennis courts or not, when was the majority of houses build and what is the location in relation to malls/parks. [:I]
So kindly share your tips as I don`t have a clue on this matter [msnsmile]
Hi Floriane - to make your job easy why not just bung in a villa enquiry via the above sites and state in the notes that you only want replies from villas on communities that have tennis courts. You can also ask the owners to tell you how far they are from the theme parks ... although this itself is always a talking point.
There isn't really a point in time that the majority of houses were built. And to be honest the age of a villa isn't really measuring anything. When you get down to a shortlist of villas that you like the look of, why not ask the owners to tell you how often they visit to ensure the place is being kept in tip top condition, when they were last there, etc. That's a much better gauge of a villa that you would expect to find in pristine condition.

Emerald Island also has tennis & volleyball and other items too but as others have said I would write a full list of your criteria down and search based on it all not 1 thing and then find out a development hasnt got the 3rd item down on the list. It is fun looking and compiling a short list go on have a go.

The red balloons are the villa communities and the blue ones various attractions.
To give you an idea of the scale and driving times, the communities on Hway 27 are about 40 mins drive from Orlando Int airport.
If you submit a request and the features you want in the comments section, first time we went where we stayed was advertised as having free tennis but when we arrived we found that the charge for equipment hire was quite steep even though there was no charge for court hire. Going from UK we hadnt taken racquets with us but found it was cheaper to buy a couple of racquets and balls from the flea market (we hadnt found Walmart then) than to hire for a couple of hours. (Mind you it did make us ensure that we provide them as we know from experience how frustrating it can be).
Once you knowo which villas are available youu can do more detailed research on tehe community you like the look of.

Hi, Bridgewater Crossing also has tennis courts that are kept locked for residents and guests only as well as basketball and volleyball
Glenbrook has a tennis court for guests use, as well as vollyball, and a fitness room.

Venetian Bay Villages is a gated community with 2 nice tennis courts.

The Shire at Westhaven is a new gated community with Clubhouse & tennis courts - due to open in December 2008.
However as said before you could send out a general enquiry and list must have access to tennis court on your requirement list with the dates of your travel. When you find a house you like most owners will be more than willing to help with your specific questions ie location to malls/restaurants/theme parks etc.
Good luck with your search and loads of great info on this forum, especially with regard to your first trip to Orlando.

This is such a great help. Thank You! I still haven`t found the right villa but I have been able to narrow the search quite a lot. Maybe I will also try posting request with all my "must have" ideas.[msnwink]
Hi Floriane - another community you could add to your shortlist is Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club - this is a gated community with 24 hour manned security at the gate, has tennis courts for guests' use, and is an easy drive to the Disney parks avoiding the sometimes very busy 192.

Would like to add that Ridgewood Lakes on Highway 27 also has tennis courts within our gated community. They are free for all residents and guests to use.

Orange Tree on the 27, just north of 192, also has tennis courts, for use by residents and visitors.
