A friend with a villa has also bought a car over there. He's just asked me if it is better to insure the car here or there. For the life of me-I'm stumped.

They don't have Florida driving licences either.

Can anyone help?

As far as I remember, I think we were told it would be almost impossible to insure a car in US without some US driving history and/or a US driving licence. But I've just had a marketing email from a US insurance company which says you can save 35% on auto insurance so it might be worth a try for a free quote http://savings.freeze.com/4Insurance/mbc/ as they say they are insurance brokers.

I don't know of any UK companies that insure US cars. Sorry, I'm not being of much help!

The big auto insurers in the US have websites where you can get a quote. You can see what happens when you put in a non-US drivers license. The big ones are

www.statefarm.com
www.allstate.com
www.progressive.com
www.geico.com
