Hi there, first post so go easy on me ...

We're off for a three-week trip on December 20th, a week on Anna Maria Island and the rest in Orlando. I do like my cars, so I'm trying to make sure we get something fun.

We'll be 5 people for the first week, so I'm going for a big SUV. Quite fancied the 8-seat Expedition from Budget but it seems having read through all the posts here that this is no longer available. Hertz can do us a Lincoln Navigator which was tempting - I drive an Aviator at the mo - but ridiculously expensive. So we'll go for the 7-seat SUV from Alamo, and hope there's a Durango available.

Does this sound sensible?

We arrive into Tampa quite late, 2230 from Chicago. Has anyone else arrived similarly late, and can tell me if there's still the opportunity to pick your own car? Although I guess given it's a busy week we may just have to take what we're given.

After the first week we're down to two adults and two kids, so I'll swap for a convertible from Budget in the hope of getting a Mustang ...

Cheers :)

James

Hi James, welcome to the forum :D I believe to get a Duango or similar, you need to book the premium SUV. Never arrived that late, but would guess they have a good choice at most times of day. The Alamo lot at Tampa is a very short bus drive from the airport.

Thanks for the welcome [msnsmile]

Have booked the Premium SUV via usacarhire.co.uk. Alamo's website lists Fullsize SUV (Durango or similar), Premium SUV (Suburban or similar) and Luxury SUV (Escalade or similar) - if they offer me an Escalade for a few dollars more, I'll be tempted to take it [msncool]

[/quote]Don't be too tempted as it will cost you far more than booking that category in the first place with uscarhire as you'll pay the extra insurances, taxes, etc on top of the increased rental price at the airport, whereas they'll all be included with the uscarhire rental.

Far better to pay the difference in the uscarhire price before you go than bend your credit card with all those extra charges!
