View Full Version : villa departure date
Hello to everyone.
I need to help or advice. My family and I have booked a lovely villa from a member of this site. What i want advice on is, that we are due to check out of our villa by 10am but our flight is not until 6pm and that we have four kids, we have ask the home owners if we could check out later and those lovely house owners have asked us what time we would want to check out, but I don't want to ask for a time that would feel unreasonable or felt like we were taking the michael, so what time would any suggest would be reasonable in asking to vacate the villa.
The owners have been great so far, and I would recommend to anyone going to florida to get their villa through this site and the information is so valuable.
Thanks all

I would imagine that if you left at 3pm that would allow half an hour to the airport, half an hour to sort the car out, and two hours before the flight leaves.
Are you going to MCO or Sanford? Sanford is a bit further.

A reasonable departure time probably depends on whether the villa is booked the same day. If there are guests due to arrive the same day a cleaner will need a few hours to clean and launder the whole villa.
If there are no guests due in it may be possible for the clean to be done the following day.
I alaways say to my guests that they are welcome to have a late check out as long as there is no one arriving the same day. Maybe if you go back to the owners and finf out the situation regarding incoming guests.
Also if they are kind enough to ofer you a late checkout you could help out by getting most of the laundry done.

I would have thought that there is noone going in the day that you depart as it takes a good few hours to clean a villa so the cleaner would have to get in by 11am at the latest as she would have to be away by 4pm for the next guests. We like to offer all of our guests a later check out if at all posssible

Personally I would say around midday would be good for the family. It should give time to finish the packingand then maybe take the children for one last trip out somewhere (waterparks are good depending on tehir ages as you only need to leave swimsuit and sunscreen out as you can hire towels. That way you can shower afterwards, perhaps have a change of clothes maybe have something to eat and then hopefully by the time your flight comes round the children will be so tired they'll fall asleep quite easily.
Dont you have to be at the airport 3 hours before for an international flight?

Karen, I think they say 3 hours, but 2 is usually more than sufficient in my experience. But perhaps others have different experiences?

Hi Ukman,
I can give you an owner's opinion on this, but I should add that this is just one owner (me) and there is no reason to expect other owners to work this way.
Here's what we do ...
First, for a late departure it depends if we are able to offer that service. It's a simple decision for us ... if we are back-to-back with guests arriving on the same day as you would be departing we can't offer a late checkout. If we aren't back-to-back we almost certainly can. The reason we can't do this on a same day changeover is to give the cleaners the right amount of time to fully clean the villa and have it sparkling and twinkling ready for the incoming people. It would be unfair if the cleaners were to cut corners to make a shorter turnaround time with the result that something wasn't perfect for the arriving guests. If we aren't on a same day changeover the final check I need to make is with our management company to confirm that they can put the clean back by a day. This has always been possible in all the time we've owned the villa, but it seems only courteous to check with them as villas do get busy and cleaners are not an infinite resource.
So all that checked, and with the clean happening the day after you depart, the answer becomes simple ... you can keep the villa as late as you like. It doesn't make hardly any difference if you stay until 3pm than if you stay until 1pm or stay until noon. So I just figure to make it open for you to decide, and that way you get the best holiday experience.
Again, that's just our way of working. It seems to make sense to me, seems fair, and seems to provide the best service to you.

Not sure where you are staying, therefore not sure how long you need to get to the airport, drop off the car, nip to the loo etc.
If you are flying at 6 I would want to be at the airport at least 3 hours before that (therefore 3 p.m.) and work backwards as to how long the journey might take, whether you want lunch out before you get to the airport or lunch at the villa with time to clear up afterwards etc.
If we were flying at 6 we would generally leave the villa by 1 p.m. and have lunch out then go to the airport (we are only 20 mins drive to Orlando International). If the owner does not have a same day booking, I think 1 p.m. would be acceptable.

From an owners point of view, I have to say we have so many requests for late departures that we charge for them. We can only do this when we don't have anyone in on the same day.
As we charge for this now ,only £30, we allow the guests to leave up to 6 O'clock. It seems to work fine especially for UK guests.Likewise for early arrivals, this is better for US guests who are driving to us,$50 extra and entrance from nine o'clock.
So if your owners are allowing you a late exit, check with them if they have guests in later that day, then the sooner you depart the better for them, but if they don't have anyone in, it won't realy matter as they have probably arranged for the cleaning the next day.
I would say, ask the owners what is the latest time you can leave.

Hi from another owners point of view, if we didn't have any guests arrving that day,we would allow you to check out later. I would ask the owners, they'll be as accommodating as they can.
I never charge for late checkout, but only allow it if I don't have incoming visitors that day.
As for getting to the airport, I fly to the UK and give myself 2 hours. I check in online.
