We're off to Florida mid October and are spending the first week in Orlando we have decided to spend the second week in Rotunda. We have been on Google earth but are struggling to see how big Rotunda actully is and whether everything is pretty central as we will want to go out to eat and drink and preferably not drive.

Thanks[msncool]

There are a number of very good restaurant and bars but 10 or so minutes drive away. A number of our guests have just ordered a cab and found this the best way to eat and have a drink with out worry.

Also Rotonda is excellently located if you want to explore the Gulf Coast a bit more: Venice, Fort Myers, Sarasota plus beaches, boating etc.

The photos below which i have"bored" readers with before were taken in November and December ; fantastic weather.

Have fun,
andrew

To give you some idea of the scale on Andrews Map, Rotonda West has 6 golf courses with 108 holes. It is a really peaceful residential area with plenty of wild life along the banks of the canals and lakes. It is a good spot for exploring the Gulf coast and once discovered many people keep returning year after year.

You have chosen a good time to go. In late October/early November the temperatures are still high but without the humidity of the summer months.

Enjoy your week in Rotonda.

Rotonda is approximatley three miles in diameter with 30 miles of canals one running around most of the circumference and others disecting the area. All villas either back onto these freshwatr canals, golf course or conservation land. At first it is a rather confusing place to navigate but once mastered is very logical. First thing to do is find out which Division you will be staying in, Pine Valley, White Marsh, Long Meadow, Broadmoor, Pinehurst or Pebble Beach - this will make it easier once you are there.

Take trip a short way south onto Gasparilla and the small town of Boca Grande. Go right to the end of the 'island' to the lighthouse and small museum (closed Mondays and Tuesdays from memory).

Enjoy Rotonda and all the wildlife that you will see.

Not the cheapest but one of our favourites for sea food and steaks is Daniel’s, 3745 Cape Haze Drive, Rotonda West.

Other favourites are:

Farlows – opposite Mamas in McCall Road is great. Doesn’t look much from the outside but lovely for lunch outside with Caribbean style cooking. Music most evenings.

Rum Bay – on Palm Island – something very different. Catch the little ferry (at rear of Johnny Leverocks) over to Palm Island. Lovely 15 min trip. Casual dining in beautiful surroundings. Good food, but must book both restaurant and water taxi. Restaurant 697-0566. Water taxi 270 0311.

Johnny Leverocks – 7092 Placida Road, Cape Haze – very good steaks and seafood. Lively bar overlooking the Marina.

South Beach Grill, Gasparilla – great sea-food. On the beach, super view of the bay. Follow sign for Lighthouse and drive to end of island.

Eagle Grille, Gasparilla – turn left at Gasparilla Inn, right at Pink Elephant and it is a few yards on the left. Great for lunch over-looking the Marina.

Stump Pass Grill - 260, Maryland Avenue, Placida Road. Tikki Bar – good for lunchtime snacks with good view of the bay. Live music some evenings.
