Does anyone out there know if it is possible to open an american bank account from over here ? The way the dollar is at the moment I wish to cash in american shares but leave them in dollars and not exchange into euros. This means I would have cash available for our holiday Oct this year.
I think it might be tricky from the UK or Ireland, due to requiremenst for picture ID etc. But can you not open a US Dollar account at a bank in Ireland? Many banks offer accounts in other currencies these days.

I opened my US bank account from the UK I had to shop around to find one that would
I faxed all the documentation required to them was reasonable straight forward.
You could try Suntrust - they are very helpful with non-US based accounts.
Also does your broker not allow you to keep funds in the original currency - I use TD Waterhouse and they provide this facility.
