Just tried to book this type of car(we booked it last year and loved it)but it wasn't coming up as an option. Do US car hire still use Budget? also my extended family have already booked this type of car so will their booking be ok too?

We still offer Budget as an option but have taken the 8 seater SUV off sale for the moment while we investigate some availability concerns we have for this vehicle with Budget.

Thanks John, I hope the option does come back as it was a great car.

Sounds great Sean, I will probably go that way. I thought the Durango was a 7 seater.

It was deffo an 8 seater, but remember, using the 8 seats leaves little room for luggage when leaving the airport.
It was a great car, felt really big and had no complaints from the family about space (there were 6 of us at one point so plenty of room)

Just booked one Sean, there are only 4 of us but my extended family are staying with us at our villa and we may have 7 people in the car to go to the parks etc, but they have hired their own car too. I think we may have hired one a while ago, my husband is convinced we have, I just remember the colour[msnembarrased]

Not at all. It should be fine.

We had a very tiny percentage of orders for this car type find no availability on arrival, which is not acceptable. We have thus taken the car offline until Budget can convince us of the proper availability of this car type.

That's unfortunate, since I just got back from Florida where we had an 8-seater SUV and the cars we had (Toyota Sienna and Ford Expedition) were both very nice.

Although to weigh in on the availability concerns I can see why you've taken them off the site... when we arrived we were given a Durango, which is a 7-seater. Not much use as there were 8 of us. Luckily they had a Toyota Sienna but they had to valet it before they could give it to us so it ended up taking us about an hour and a half before we had a car to drive away.

What we really wanted was an Expedition and it took another four days before they had one available for us (after four or five hassling phone calls).

Im concerned now as we've booked an 8 seater for 8 of us plus luggage. What type of suv should I be hoping to get to fit it all in?

Well we had 8 + luggage as well. There was enough room in the Sienna (which is more a minivan than an SUV) but we had to make two trips on the way back with the Expedition.

I also have an 8 seat SUV booked, although it's not needed until next April! Should I be concerned about this development? We were really looking forward to getting a Chevy Suburban as was advertised at the time of booking.

John.

I really wouldn't worry about this as it is a very small percentage with the problem, and Budget are certain the problem has been resolved.

Thanks Roger. Just one more thing, is there any point in requesting a particular vehicle or is it just pot luck when you turn up to collect?

Roger - does this mean that the option will be available again anytime soon?

I have just come back from a trip via Tampa - we booked the 8 seater from Budget (booked via US car hire) and it was fine but someone else arrived at the same time and did not get theirs - not sure who they booked through.

I have booked an 8 seater 4 x 4 (ford expidition or similar) from budget via www.****.net, for collection from MCO. However, looking at budget's website, this is not available at MCO, so I have no idea what I'll end up with. I am now considering cancelling as I can't get confirmation that this is the vehicle I will get.

Just received this reply from [name edited]

Thank you for your email. Budget have confirmed your booking to us, therefore the 4x4 8 seater is available for your dates from MCO.

Hope this is fact, and not just to keep me happy. I will take all correspondence with me concerning this.

Lucky you

We had the 8 seater SUV booked from Miami - none available. Tried to give us a Durango, which is much smaller and only 7 seats, but there are 7 of us and we simply don't fit with the luggage. They kept insisting it was the same class car, but it's not.

We've ended up with a 7 seater minivan and a 2 hour wait while they tried to sort the paperwork. Put me in a very bad mood for the start of the holiday, but I'm over it now. It's the second time out of three this has happened to us, both times they offered a Durango instead of the Expedition. They just don't seem to have enough Expeditions to go round - the last time we took the Durango we tried on about 4 occasions with three different Budget locations to change to an Expedition but none in stock anywhere.

Sorry to hijack the topic a little but previous poster Tonish, can you tell me what kind of 7 seat mini-van Budget gave you? I posted a topic myself a couple of weeks ago but haven't had any luck with replies, was wondering if anyone actually uses Budget for 7 seat mini-vans!

Hi yellowbentines

We got a Dodge Grand Caravan - from experience it's the biggest minivan out there - it fits us all and the luggage fine. There's 4 full size suitcases plus lots of smaller backpacks, all of which fit in the boot. There is also enough room in the cabin to take another suitcase or two behind the passenger seat. There may be other makes which are the same size, but I couldn't comment on them. We did once have an oldsmobile version which was the same size and much nicer - more upmarket, with electric side doors etc, but I can't remember its name.

However, the Grand Caravan is neither an 8 seater SUV, nor luxury, which is what we wanted.
