More airboats

We have just booked a 2 hour private airboat tour for tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes but it cost $160 for both of us and it is just ourselfs on the boat. Drinks, snacks provided and headsets with microphones for one to one chat between captain and passengers.

Promises to take you deeper and further than the larger boats that take large groups(upto 25 or more sometimes) of people you don't know.

So for $40 each per hour, I was thinking that this was better and more personal than the cheaper mass outings you get at boggy creek etc. [name edited].

Ah ok. Well this is not boggy creek air tours but a tour we loved and will recommend to all our friends and family. In fact we are going to do an evening tour before we head home next week.

So what was it like? Well we both thouroughly enjoyed ourselfs. What was suppose to be a 2 hour tour turned into 2 hours and 50mins !!! We hadn't picked the best day for it as it started raining 30mins or so into our tour. But we Scots are used to rain at home so it did not take away from our enjoyment. The captain was a bit worried we might not enjoy ourselfs because of the rain, he was so wrong !!

We Started at Whaley’s Landing Boat Ramp Lake Tohopekaliga and headed off into Lake Cypress and then into Lake Hatchineha. He took us through the river system called "the dead river", which is only suited to the smaller airboats and you really did feel like you were deep in the swamps.

We saw all manor of wildlife from all sizes of Gators, Storks, Bald Eagles, Vultures, Turkeys, Deer etc.

We stopped off at the "yacht club", a local airboat hotspot where everyone can get off and stretch their legs or get out of the rain(which we did). We then started on our return to Lake Tohopekaliga, seeing as much of the local wildlife as we had seen earlier.

So I think I speak for my wife too when I say this has been the highlight of our holiday so far and as we expect to return to Orlando next year, this is going to be on our list of must do's.

Oh and we did pass several Boggy Creek boats in Lake Tohopekaliga but I'm sure they did not have half as much fun as we did[clap]

I'm going on a Boggy Creek ride next Friday, it will be our first time and I can't wait after reading the comments made on here.

An update on our second airboat tour with (mail me for info).
I called Captain Harold with a strange request...well they do say they cater for private tours and not the group thing that the others provide.

I asked for the 2 hour tour with a difference...to take me out (my wife wanted to go too) and allow me to do some fishing for an hour or so. I already had my fishing licence. He jumped at the chance, he said he would love to do that and that he had never fished from the airboat before even though it had fishing rod holders fitted. I told him he was more than welcome to bring his own rod (he told me on the first tour we did that he did a bit of fishing and hunting in his spare time).

So I paid the normal 2 hour price for a tour and at 08:30 we headed out into Lake Toho. We toured about for about an hour, watching Gators, Snail Kites and all mannor of wild life before we pulled up along side some weeds and lilly pads. I caught a few fish before he did and we had a great laugh debating his fishing skills or rather lack off...lol But in the end we both caught some nice Bass and Bream.

About 2 hours passed and we were still fishing, he then asked if we had any other plans for the day? We did not and he said he didn't have another booking so was quite happy to sit and keep fishing. In the end it was my wife who started to feel the heat too much and at 12:30 we called it a day. So for the price of a 2 hour tour, we were out for 4 hours !!! Now I can't promise that will happen every time, but twice I have been out with Captain Harold and his wife Debi and both times our tours ran over their time. Perhaps as his buisness grows he will have less time but I'm sure they will be a joy to tour with each time.

I think I made a friend there and he told me to give him some notice before our next visit as his friend is a fishing guide and he would try and arrange a trip for the 3 of us to go fishing on his friends boat were we will cover the fuel and bring along the beers[msncool] sounds like a plan to me[msncool]
