Feedback is that the cars are excellent (as they are the same company as Dollar, they have the same basic fleet). The only downside with Thrifty, which most people are fine about, is most of their depots are off-site at the airport, but very close and a free short shuttle bus ride away.

Hi
We are using Thrifty at the moment. We have a Jeep Cherokee which now has about 9000 miles on the clock. I didn't realise that the depot was off site and thought it would be a problem cos my husband travels in a wheelchair and can't climb steps but the shuttle bus was great and lowered a ramp for Ivan ( not like Miami last year when we had to heave him onto the bus). When we got to the depot we went in and joined the queue of about 5 parties even though there is a dedicated wheelchair accessible desk but the manager came and took us to the dedicated desk. He processed our documents even though they were slightly unfamiliar to him. NO hard sell for extra insurance which we didn't need, unlike both Dollar and Alamo. He checked that the jeep would be big enough for us and the said hold on a moment and disappeared for a couple of minutes - He had gone to bring the jeep to the door for us!![clap]. As I said I was concerned about the depto being off site but all in all we probably cleared the Thrifty depot as quickly as we would have if wehad had to queue for one of the onsite companies. We definitely would use Thrifty again

I had a Dollar car that developed a fault and had to exchange it at a Thrifty outlet in Melbourne and got the same type of car.

I didn't think they were competitive in price with Dollar/Alamo/Budget for UK citizens hiring in the USA - simply because they didn't cater for that market - has that changed Roger?

Thrifty are generally quite a lot cheaper now than the other suppliers. They are having a bit of a price war with Budget, which is why Dollar introduced the new Thrifty product. In general the Thrifty fleet is newer than Budgets, although Budget tend to offer the free upgrades on certain car types and have the second driver on the Silver option. Thrifty have the edge on price.

I'm renting from Thrifty and collecting at Tampa where they are at the terminal alongside the other rental companies.
