Hi Everyone, off to Florida in Sept and am a little worried regarding my 5 year old daughters passport. She has had the passport since she was 14 months old and is due to expire in June 09. The problem is that she looks totally different now to her passport photo as obviously she has grown a full head of curly blond hair and looks a lot older, someone has told me they will refuse entry because she has changed, is this the case or will she be fine?
cheers
Graham

If in doubt Graham I would say renew it now. I seem to recall that if there is more than six months but less than 1 year left to run on a passport, the Passport Office will tack this onto the new one (so it would be for expiry 5yrs and however many months). I sympathise completely - my 2 year old looks nothing like her passport now (which she had when she was 10 weeks old!!) It is probably best to check with the Passport Office themselves - and it may be a case of some immigration officers would be fine with it and some wouldn't be so I would be inclined to err on the side of caution.

Have a great trip!!

I'm sure it won't be a problem, but if you are worried, then get it renewed. You can now fill the form in online, they then post it to you (ours arrived the next day) then we sent it off with the photos etc and it was back in 8 days :D

I would have thought it would be ok as this is usually the case with baby passports. We took my daughter when she was 17 months old looking nothing like her passport as that was when she was 3 months old. I always think that with baby passports as long as there is a child of the right sex about the right age any child could use the passport. I think children were safer when they were on the parent's passports (unless the parents are in dispute)

This is going to be an ongoing problem since it was decided that everybody including new-born babies needed their own passport with photos. Personally I would not renew a passport under these circumstances, the authorities must know that a 2 weeks old baby is not going to look the same at 5 years old. IMHO you would have to renew every year at the minimum considering how young children change and its just another way to get a bit more money out of you [msnmad]

My youngest daughters passport had a picture of her as a new born and I used it up to its expiry date without any problems[msnsmile]
