Just heard this on the radio and just had to share, sorry if you already knew.

Apparantly all newer model cars have a symbol on the dash which tells you which side of the car the fuel filler is on.

It is in the shape of an arrow pointing either left or right positioned next to the fuel symbol.

You will never forget which side when you are driving a rental or strange car from now on!

See picture below:-

This is from a Chrysler 300.

Check out your own and see if it works, cool or what.

Reminds me of when I bought an old Caprice Classic in the 80's to go traveling with round the US. Went to the gas station for the 1st time and walked around and around the car looking for the gas/petrol cap. Eventually had to ask for help; the rear number plate was hinged and when it came down the gas cap was behind it[:I]

I thought they all had these signs anyway, I know my oldish Chrysler Grand Voyager and my hubbys older Renault have these, as does my Sons VW Polo.

What a clever idea, I also hire a lot of cars in Spain always get a different model each trip. It's only when I go into the garage that I realise I'm not sure which side the cap is.

Will have to look and see if European cars have this symbol.

Thanks. [msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

I didn't know that. It'll save me hanging out of the driver's door trying to see if I can see the cap and then having to move to another pump![msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

The same principle works at home, in UK.

I was told recently that if you check your car dashboard at home, see which side of the speedometer the fuel gauge is located and that it the side of the car where your fuel cap will be. I checked ours and we have 1 car with a left-side fill and one with right-side fill, and it worked for both, a glance at the dashboard (when filling my wife's car) confirms which side the cap is.

Unfortunately, doesn't apply to '08 Honda Accord, no arrow, guage on right, filler on left....
But there always has to be an exception to any rule !!

Great idea, wish they would do it more with UK cars. The number of times I have been in a hire car and have had to stop and check where the filler cap is located before deciding which pump to go to is unbelievable.

Not just newer cars, our 2002 American model has it too.

most pumps will reach both sides anyway , so dont worry too much

Noticed this when we went in 2004 so not such a new idea but very helpful none the less.

As to the fuel gauge location in the UK showing which side the filler is on....

Well on my 3 series BMW the fuel gauge is on the left of the Speedometer and the filler is on the.....

Right side of the car.[msnembarrased]
