Maureen
We had this on Friday Night. WOW it was very strong, if thats the word. The Lightning lit up the sky like day and lasted about 15 or so seconds, and then thunder was really load, downpours flooded the streets and then had a dose of hailstorms as well, but the weather now is gorgeous, so just like florida in the end.

We are in Surrey and it has been a glorious day. Clear blue skies and scorching hot sun. Children & grandaughter all went to the beach. I cleaned the garden slabs then we went out for lunch. Was really nice & relaxing - but does not have the Florida feel.[msnwink]

We are in Manchester, same as you Maureen, but we have only had a few rumbles of thunder and no rain at all! It must be very localised.

In Sussex the sun is still shining :D
We are just north of Manchester and it rained like mad here this afternoon, just as I was out walking the dog[msnmad]. It had been sunny all morning and as I set off there was not a cloud in the sky and glorious sunshine, got my sunglasses out of the car so I could see as it was that bright. Well it waited until I was about a mile and a half from home when the heavens opened! It was still very sunny at first and was rather weird as when I looked up into the sky there were still no clouds[msnoo], so where did the rain come from? Anyway, by the time I got home I was soaked to the skin, I could even ring out my underwear[msnembarrased] and then we had thunder for a couple of hours. Not raining now but is a little overcast and having just spoken to my Mum on the phone who lives less than 3 miles away I was surprised that she had not had any rain, so it certainly was very localised[msnmad]

It's been absolutely glorious here in North Shropshire all day. We've had the roof off the Jeep and had a really nice drive over to the Oswestry area for some walking and geocaching, followed by a lovely meal on the terrace of a restaurant in Shrewsbury. I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday [msnsmile2].

Well lovely day here in Keynsham all day today.[clap]
Different story to Friday evening, which saw a spectacular thunderstorm which seemed to focus over our home and with one almighty clap, we lost both sky machines, one widescreen, 3 portables, 2 dvd players and 1 video player[msncry]
That will teach us, to turn everything off next time[msncry]

No problem Barbara but thanks for the kind thought [msnsmile]. We had a really hectic day dashing from one cache to the next and did not even have time to touch the flask of tea we had with us.

[/quote]After arriving home at lunchtime from 90 degree Orlando to 75 degree Manchester, we were pleased to see it wasn't raining. later, massive thunderstorm and I had to put my waterproofs on to go playing a golf match. 5 miles down the road, there was no rain and that's the way it stayed. Wierd.
We were so lucky down here in Cornwall. We had decided to visit the beautiful Port Elliot house and estate at St Germans (near Plymouth). This is the first year it has been open and is only open for 100 days (closes in June).
It was beautiful when we left home but the sky was ominous as we got closer with sheets of lightening. We had a few drops of rain but must have been on the edge of the storm, we could see the rain off to our right. When we arrived they had had a downpour, a few mins earlier and we would have been soaked. By the time we'd walked round the house the sun was out and everything had dried up. Had a lovely walk through the gardens and park and along the river Lyner [msnsmile2]
Hate to say this folks but someone's gotta - no rain or thunder in Florida... [8D]

There are very few rooms open but it was lovely. It must have been an amazing place to stay. I'd always wanted to see the mural by Lenkiewicz in the Round Room, it's stunning but so sad he didn't live to finish it.
Here are some photos just for you (including one of the pool)! I hope they bring back some happy memories [msnsmile2]
