View Full Version : Virgin TV and Films
Was it just me or have virgin reduced the number of films and channels they have on their flights (ie for kids) to Orlando.
Still they managed to watch snow white 4 times!

I agree - there was only really 1 film which was suitable for under 12s. Virgin seem to have reduced the range of films. I used to really enjoy a couple of films on the flight but last time I just read my book because nothing appealed to me.

What really bugged me with Virgin is, the first time we flew to Orlando in 1996 we had the arcadia games system and skymap etc, which was brilliant, passed the time away playing Tetris etc. the following year the planes had changed to the older type, when I asked why they told me it was because the businessmen on the Miami route had complained they weren't getting the best facilities so they switched the planes. Never mind all the thousands of children who need to be entertained for 8 hours on the Orlando route.

We are flying with BA this year for the first time and are hoping they have similar TV's to keep the children entertained.
Its a shame virgin have reduced the films, the last time we flew it kept our son quiet for hours with all the films (and me)!!

We always flew with Virgin until a couple of years ago and I was DREADING the first flight without the TVs in the seat infront but.....to be honest, we took the usual puzzle books, word search etc and the all essential:
Travel Scrabble
Travel Connect 4
Travel Ludo
Travel Frustration
Happy Families Card Pack
get the picture???
Anyway, as we had to play to occupy the kids and ourselves (I'm 5ft and haven't really a hope of seeing the telly in the ceiling from any angle!!) the time actually didn't seem to drag as much as it seems to with the films etc. Whilst I think they are great, do we have a tendency to sit and gaze at the screen without even talking to each other?
We also now don't go direct (stop at Newark if poss) and this too helps to break up the journey as long as your stop isn't too long. Have to say though, our kids now think a 3hour flight or 3 hour train journey is so quick!!
We always fly BA if possible and all their Florida planes now have TV's in seat which have an excellent choice - usually!
My girls are now 13 and 16, but there seems to a good choice of children's films and cartoons. There is also a comedy channel, and a very good radio selection. The chairs have little wings at the neck area so you don't need those funny little blow up neck cushions any more.
Food seems to have gone downhill recently but we have found the crew as charming and efficient as ever.

Airtours into Sanford had seat back tvs when we flew with them in May, which surprised us. May have been just that one plane, though. Don't know if it is now general across their fleet.

I am quite impressed with BA, even though we havn't gone yet I rang up to request seats to accommodate an infant and was told they have bassinets up to the age of 2 which I thought seemed strange because the airline I work for only go up to 6 months but apparently if the infant is too bit to go in the cot they have a sort of car seat for the bigger infant which sits on the floor, I hope I get it.!!

Hi Emma,
BA will now give you a car seat which straps to the shelf (which also takes the bassinet) in front of the bulk head seats. We have had one for our youngest the last two journeys and they are excellent. He went to sleep very well in it but would have been much to big for a bassinet. I hope for your sake that you get one but I have always found BA very helpful.

Just spoke to BA today and it has been confirmed I have the bassinet seat so I am a little at ease now, well almost.
