Can anyone give me some advice on buying a hdd camcorder, am I better off buying one in the u.k or Orlando. If Orlando wheres the best place to buy one and any make / model etc would be appreciated.
I am looking for a decent but not professional spec.
Thanks in advance

I can't recommend any particular camera to you, but when you decide on one, make sure you check prices in the UK and on the internet first as it is not always cheaper in the US. Places like circuit city and best buy often have internet offers and it is possible to order online to pick up at your chosen store in Florida. Remember to add in the cost of the US to UK plug. Most cameras have a 110-240 voltage, but do check this too.

Pretty much as Shirley says above. Probably best to have a look around in UK & decide on a few possibles. Looking at pictures on the web is OK but always worthwhile if you can doing a little window shopping. Once decided then note make & model number & search on the web. I know this does not really help with choosing but I expect someone will drop buy & make a recommendation.
There are many price comparison sites. Some of which have a UK site as well as a US site so nice & easy to compare internet prices between UK & US. One site which comes to mind is Price Runner as they have a UK site, US & several other countries. Just search for 'price comparsion' using Google for example. You could even search on the make & model of camera.

I was in Orlando just under 2 weeks ago, they are cheaper out there, but the only problem is that you might not have a warranty when you return to the UK, for peace of mind i would pay the little extra and get it before you travel out there.

I would recomend JVC for a HDD Cam, they have some great little ones on the market at good prices.

One word of advice is to ensure you don't assume the price advertised on the window is the price you are going to pay. I'm sure there are more genuine dealers than not, but I have seen numerous times on this, and other forums, where a good price suddenly gets 'jacked up' once they start to add things such as chargers, discs/tapes, batteries, case, carrying strap - basically everything that normally comes in the box.
On the occassions that we have looked for the difference in prices between UK and US it has never been enough for us to risk the chance that it won't work when we get it back, or the product isn't covered outside of the US.
