Just wanted to say "Well Done" to my Mum and her longhaired Chihuahua, Heidi, who won best Longcoat Chihuahua Bitch, winning her first Championship Certificate.

My Mum has several champions and has been breeding chihuahua's for many years, but it is still thrillng to do well at Crufts

Paula, i waited until my children got to double figures age wise before considering a dog and then i did a lot of research on the type that would be best for us as a family

if you could look after one for a week or two first, perhaps for someone who's going away it will help give the children a good idea of the responsibility that comes with owning a dog

Well done to Heidi!

I was watching Crufts the other night and the short hair chihuhua won its class, we got my daughter a chihuhua for christmas and he is so cute and are looking into showing him soon.

We always had dogs when I was growing up, unfortunately Eve has allergies to animal fur. My Mum and sister both have dogs and although Eve loves them she can't touch them. We used to look after Mums dog when she was on holiday but as Eve was so bad my sister now has the pleasure of "Holly" a cheeky little westie.

congratulations on your mum and her dog Heidi [clap] nice one, must watch later

getting our new dog Diesel was one of the best things we have done in a long time, bit of a difference in comparison to a chihuahua with a great dane[high5]

Paula, if you are serious about having a dog, consider a labradoodle. These dogs are frequently used as canine partner dogs. They have the coat of a poodle so people do not tend to be allergic to them. There are also cockapoodle, which are smaller, again used as a working dog for people with disablements.

Paula, my Mum originally got a short coat chihuahua as my brother wanted a dog, but has asthma, but short coat chihuahuas are okay. It is something to do with them not producing dander I believe.

I will see if I can find a picture to post of Heidi [msnsmile2]

Paula if you do a search a lot of information comes up about dogs and allergies, it is possible to get a dog that could be suitable for Eve, i was allergic to our families first collie (a lassie dog) when i was a child [msnsad] and i remember her going and being replaced a few years later with a smooth coated border collie, been ok around dogs ever since so i think i outgrew it?

it is to do with the dander that comes off that triggers the allergic reaction but not in all cases, with a bit of research and trial and error you could find a lovely dog that's just right for your home

looking fwd to seeing the pic Karen [clap]

the winner was a gorgeous dog and well deserved, it had been in that final line up 3 times now

i liked the beagle Max the best, he was so handsome

the winner of the friend for life dog was well deserved too, not a dry eye in the arena for that award

gorgeous pics Karen [clap]

I didn't have dry eye after watching winner of the friend for life dog. I too thought the beagle looked handsome - I loved his face and the way he walked around the arena. Phillipe was expected to win as this was his third time in the final. He looked extremely fit and proud.
