This is my first time in florida at christmas, i normally go every year in august but i went at christmas this time because it was cheaper.

Normally in Florida in august it is really hot during the day and hot at night but i dont know what to look out for, is it hot in the daytime or is it cold?

is it as hot as august during the day? is it freezing at night?

What clothes am i going to bring with me?????????? [msnscared]

The weather at Christmas is extremely variable. However you can expect cool mornings - if we go to the parks early I usually wear a light cardigan which I can take off when it warms up. During the main part of the day it is usually nicely warm - we go swimming most days at one of the water parks at midday - the water is heated so is fine but it can be a bit chilly standing around.
In the evenings it can cool off again so a sweater is a must. Some evenings when we stayed out late we found it very cold - woolly hats, gloves, fleeces type cold. We tend to throw coats etc in the trunk of the car so we can always nip back and put on more clothes if it gets cold. We did have a couple of overnights 'frosts' although nothing like as cold as in the UK - it just feels cold because you are used to the warmer weather during the day.
Although it is cooler than August there is not much rain and what you do get is not heavy - the Disney ponchos were fine on the odd rainy day.

We went at Christmas 2 years ago and found the day time temps to be ok, in fact we spent several days sat by the pool with temps in the mid 70's.

But at night and early in the morning it was a little chilly, nothing like the UK in December, but still the need for a light jacket or a jumper.

If it is wet then the temps will be in the early 50's so a pair of long trousers is advised.

Christmas is our favourite time, early December is great, local kids mostly at school so the parks are quieter and the weather is better than here in the UK!.

Christmas 2001 was mid 70's to mid 80's with a couple of small showers, Christmas 2002 was low 60's to mid 70's with several really heavy rain storms and a severe weather warning!.

It's a really nice time to go, you get the benefits of quiet parks, Xmas decorations and shows, cheap Xmas shopping and usually sunshine & heat :)

We're going back again this year as well, Nov.27th to Dec.18th, just so we can get a third use out of our AP's before they expire (well that's my excuse!).

It may be a good idea to pop into Walmart or K Mart (both at the east end of the 192 just past mile marker 15) and buy some rain capes (ponchos) they are only about $3 or $6 for the better quality ones (Disney etc.) it's a lot cheaper then buying them in the parks!.

Also worth buying is a throw-away polystyrene coolbox for about $3, you put loads of ice in it, drop in a few cans/bottles, go to the parks and when you come out you have a nice cool drink waiting for you in the car :D (also works with choccy bars!). Last April we bought a huge one and put in some Oscar Meyer lunch packs (very cheap in Publix or Walmart), they're like Dairy Lea Lunchables but about 1/2 the price :), so the kids could come out of the park and have a light lunch without it warming up in the van.

You can always tell the tourists from the locals when the temps drop.

We were over in December in 2001 and to us it was still warm enough for shorts during the day and a jumper at night, whereas the Floridians came out in heavy coats, scarves, hats and gloves all day !

Last November they were selling hot chocolate as the daytime temps dipped into the mid 70s !

We actually saw the New Year in once wearing shorts and t-shirts :D. Generally, though, you'll need at least a light jacket or cardigan if it does cool down early morning and in the evening. It's a great time of year to go.

We fly out on the 13th of December, I have packed (yes I have already started to pack) some shorts but also an assortment of light, long trousers, also some long sleeved tops and a nice warm fleece each.

We were last over at christmas 6 years ago (when we got married)it was very varied, some days we were in shorts and T-shirts, other days jeans and a fleece. We definitley needed the fleece and long trousers in an evening and early morning.

We really felt the cold on our return to the UK though - make sure you have some coats to hand before leaving the airport.

This year we have bought the children the zip of style trousers, so we can zip them away during the day and zip back if necessary, as it gets cooler !

Dress in layers, thats the secret. It can be nice and warm at midday but dont be tempted to go on the water rides unless you bring a change of clothes. As soon as the temperatures start dropping ( and they do as soon as the sun goes down which can be quite early), you will never dry out and start to freeze. Happened to my son at IOA. We now bring extra clothes and hire a locker.
